SYSTEM SENSOR SPECTRALERT™ SERIES CEILING MOUNTED NOTIFICATION APPLIANCES DESCRIPTION HORNS In the System Sensor SpectrAlert™ Series electronic horns, state-of-the-art electronics, combined with the durability of a rugged plastic housing, eliminate the effects of inrush and RFI contact noise. These horns are combined with strobes to meet the requirements of UL Standard 1971 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Field-selectable (reversible) features available are: • Continuous (non-temporal) or Emergency Evacuation Signal per ANSI S3.41 (Temporal Pattern 3). • High or low dBA sound output • Electromechanical or 3,000 Hz interrupted. The horns are indoor Listed and mount on a standard 4" back box for flush mount, or surface mount with a Model BBSC skirt. STROBES The strobes are indoor Listed, operate on 24 VDC, contain xenon flash tubes, and are available in a “stand-alone” configuration, or integral with the horn. The SpectrAlert™ strobes are intended for non-sleeping areas/ADA applications (15, 15/75, 30, 75 or 95 cd) and 115 or 177 cd for sleeping areas. The strobes may be used in conjunction with the MDL synchronization module which can synchronize two Style Y (Class B) or one Style Z (Class A) circuit. It can also generate an ANSI S3.41 temporal pattern. The module allows the horns on combination horn/strobe units to be silenced on Class B circuits. The MDL module mounts flush in a 4 1/16-inch square electrical box. The horns, strobes and accessories are available either in white with red FIRE letters or red with white letters. SIGNAL COVERAGE Most codes require that the notification appliances be “intelligible and audible in all occupied areas.” Thus, additional appliances may be necessary to compensate for sound absorbing construction.
