USB Charger Detection Enables Optimal
Universal Charging
Imagine a world where only one charger fits all your devices.
With the widespread deployment of USB ports in hotel rooms, planes, and automobiles, the increasing adoption of USB charging
is making that vision a reality. The MAX14656* allows your mobile device to capitalize on USB’s ubiquity, while optimizing to
the charge capability of each type of USB port and even proprietary USB adapters. And it's all done in a manner compliant to the
latest USB charging recommendations**.

Protect Your Portable Device from Damage
When Simultaneously Using Multiple Power
Supplies
The MAX14606/MAX14607 are high-voltage, high-current overvoltage protectors (OVPs) that feature reverse bias blocking
capability so that two power sources can be safely interfaced simultaneously without damage to either one. In this design, two
integrated back-to-back FETs prevent the voltage applied at the intended output from feeding back into the input. Without this
reverse bias blocking, users are forced to use multiple discrete, space-consuming external components to protect the end equipment.

2A, DC-DC, Li+ Battery Charger Reduces Charge
Time and Heat by 50%
The energy-efficient MAX8903A Li+ battery charger utilizes its Smart Power Selector circuitry to operate with no battery or a
deeply discharged battery when connected to external power. It optimizes limited USB or adapter power and charges the battery
with input power not used by the system. The MAX8903A eliminates the need for external FETs, diodes, and sense resistors to
simplify design and maximize board space.

TINI Power SoCs Break Through the Integration
Barrier in Portable Platforms
Half the board area in smartphones and tablets is consumed by power, analog, mixed-signal, audio, and passive components.
Maxim’s power SoCs integrate these functions in a single chip to free up real estate for new differentiating features and
higher-capacity batteries.
• Integrate power and system functions into a single chip to
save board space, reduce the bill of materials, and improve
performance
• Built-in microcontroller and memory offload the applications
processor and allow one design to be ported across multiple
platforms
• Highly efficient power-management functions extend

The MAX8952 is a tiny, DC-DC step-down converter with high output current that enables application processors to run at their
maximum clock speed to meet the demands of today’s multimedia applications in handheld devices. Designed to minimize your
solution area, this 2mm x 2mm converter also ensures tight output-voltage accuracy for reliable, power-efficient operation.

High Efficiency Over a Wide Load Extends
Battery Life
1.2A Step-Down DC-DC Achieves Up to 95% Efficiency, 16µA IQ
The MAX1556/MAX1557 step-down DC-DC converters save battery life by having the lowest supply current under all operating
conditions, including light load, heavy load, and dropout. These devices provide the fastest load and line-regulation responses of
any parts in their class. Use them to get longer standby and operating times in your PDA, smartphone, digital camera, and other
handheld devices.
• Single part has one adjustable and three fixed outputs
• Analog soft-start with zero overshoot
• Pin-programmable 3.3V, 2.5V, 1.8V, and adjustable
outputs at 1.2A (MAX1556)
• Tiny 10-pin, 3mm x 3mm TDFN package
• Pin-programmable 1.5V, 1.3V, 1.0V, and adjustable
