Low-Cost, High-Efficiency, Offline AC/DC Controller
with DC/DC Buck Converter
PRODUCT OVERVIEW
The Marvell® 88EM8511 is a highly efficient offline power supply controller for control circuits in smart
lighting application including LED drivers, ballasts, dimmers, sensors, switches and many other
applications. The device combines a high voltage (600V) MOSFET for the AC/DC stage and a DC/
DC Buck Converter with two low voltage MOSFETS into a single compact package. This high level of
integration simplifies design and eliminates many external components resulting in a low cost bill-ofmaterials. The 88EM8511 is ideal for applications that require constant power supply for control circuits
while the rest of the power circuit is switched off thereby assisting the end system to meet Energy Star
requirements.
The 88EM8511 generates a high voltage (18V) output directly from the AC line input. An internal high
efficiency DC/DC buck converter is employed to produce a regulated low voltage output that can drive
up to 100mA of load. The low voltage output is preset to 3V and can be adjusted by an external resistor
divider from 1.2V to 5.5V.
