Low supply voltage (1.2 V) 2016-size TCXO
for mobile communication terminals developed
Nihon Dempa Kogyo Co., Ltd. has developed a 2016-size (height typ.0.7mm) temperature
compensated crystal oscillator (TCXO) operable with a power supply voltage of typ. +1.2VDC.
As mobile communication device such as smartphones and tablet computers have been enhanced
in functionality and multi-functionalized, the need for reducing the increasing power consumption to
ensure long-hour continuous operation has become imperative. One of the solutions is to reduce the
supply voltage and power consumption of devices used in mobile communication terminals, thereby
extending the operating time between charges.
Anticipating these needs, NDK developed this new TCXO. While NDK's existing TCXOs require
a supply voltage of typ. 1.8V, the new TCXO only requires typ.1.2V. The power consumption is also
lower by about 20 percent (compared to NDK's TCXO with 26MHz output). In addition, the
frequency temperature characteristics are max. ±0.5 ppm (-30°C to +85°C), ensuring that the new
TCXO is stable for global positioning system (GPS) applications.
The new TCXO covers a frequency range from 16 MHz to 40 MHz. The product is available in
five standard frequency levels (16.368 MHz, 16.369 MHz, 19.2 MHz, 26 MHz and 38.4 MHz) so
that product samples can be promptly tested by customers.
Delivery of product samples is planned to be launched in October 2012 and mass production in
March 2013.
