Penpower Input Method Online Help
Penpower Input Method provides Penpower Handwriter, Onscreen Keyboards, and Voice Input
functions. Penpower Handwriter can recognize Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, English,
and Numbers. The Onscreen Keyboards contain English Keypad, Pinyin Keypad, Zhuyin Keypad,
and Cangjie Keypad.

Settings
Add Penpower Input Method into the Input Method List
1. Choose [Settings] > [Locale and text] and then select [Penpower input method]. Penpower
input method will then be added into the input method list.
2. Tap and hold a text field, such as in a note or new contact, to bring up and select [Input
method].
3. Choose [Penpower input method] to set [Penpower input method] as the default input
method. Then Penpower input method will appear automatically.
4. To close [Penpower input method], simply press the back button on the device.
Tip：If you don't find [Penpower input method] after you select [Input method], please repeat
the steps above to add it in the list again.
Penpower input method Introduction
Penpower input method provides Penpower Handwriter, Onscreen Keyboards, and Voice Input
functions. The interface of Penpower Handwriter includes a handwriting area and tool bar.
Tip：If Penpower input method is set as the default input method, it will automatically bring up when
you tap a text field, such as in a note or new contact.
Handwriting Area
Penpower Handwriter can recognize Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, English, and
Numbers. When you rotate the phone, Penpower Handwriter will follow the rotation. For more
information, please see [Chinese Handwriter].
Tip: The landscape mode of Penpower Handwriter contains two writing grids. You can write
Traditional or Simplified Chinese on either grid, or write by turns.
Tool bar
Switch Input Method/Settings － Tap this icon to switch to English Keypad. Tap and hold
this icon to open Penpower input method menu and set the Chinese input method as Zhuyin
Keypad, Pinyin Keypad, Cangjie Keypad, or Penpower Handwriter. Select [Penpower input method
Settings] and you can open the Setting page. Select [Input method] to bring up the input method list
of system.
Switch between Full and Half Width / Symbol － To view more symbols, please tap

English Handwriter － Tap to switch to English Handwriter. Tap
to Chinese Handwriter.
Space － Tap this icon to insert a space.
Delete － Tap this icon to delete the character before the cursor.

Chinese Handwriter
1. Write a character at the handwriting area.
Tips：
1. Chinese Handwriter can recognize Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, English, and
Numbers.
2. Although Chinese Handwriter can recognize HK characters, they will not be displayed
correctly on the screen if your phone does not support HK characters.
3. The landscape mode of Chinese Handwriter contains two writing grids. You can write
traditional or simplified Chinese on either grid, or write by turns.
2. The system will start to recognize your strokes when you are writing. Probable candidate
words will be listed for you to select.
3. When you select a candidate word, it will then replace the original recognized word.
Tip: You can set the recognition result as [Traditional Chinese], [Simplified Chinese], or
[Both]. For more about recognition results, please refer [Settings] .
4. When you select a candidate word, you can see its [post related word] appears right away.
5. If you want to insert a symbol, you can tap
to select it from the frequent symbol list. If
the symbol you want to input is not in the list, please tap
full-width symbols and

English Handwriter
1. Tap
to switch to English Handwriter. English Handwriter provides the function for you to
continuously write several letters.
2. Write a word on the grid.
Tips:
1. English Handwriter can recognize the letters written on the grid and ignore the writing
order and overlapping of strokes.
2. English Handwriter provides Infinite Writing for you to write slowly. The system will display
the candidates after writing strokes for you to choose. You can choose a character or write
strokes more.
3. The system will start to recognize your strokes when you are writing. Probable candidate
words will be listed for you to select. Tap and move the candidate word list to see more
candidate words.
Tip: You can write some initial letters of the word and the system will list the candidate
words with these initial letters for you to choose. For example, after you write "app" and send
"app" out to the cursor position, the candidate words will include words such as "application."
You can then select "application" and the system will attach "lication" after "app."
4. Select a candidate word and this word will be sent out to the cursor position.
Tips:

Onscreen Keyboards
Penpower input method additionally provides onscreen keyboards, containing English Keypad,
Pinyin Keypad, Symbol keypad, Zhuyin Keypad, and Cangjie Keypad.
English Keypad
If you want to switch to English Keypad, simply tap

Tap and hold a number key to enter to input the upper case symbol.

to input the upper case symbols and capital letters.

Tips:
1. When the field is for a URL address, or Email address, the English Keypad will automatically be
brought up. When the field is for phone number, the number keypad will automatically be brought
up.
2. The English Keypad provides the word prediction function. While you are typing, the probable
candidate word will be displayed on the top of the keypad for you to fast input.
Zhuyin Keypad
1. Tap and hold the [Switch Input Method/Settings] of the left down corner of the screen to
open the [Penpower input method menu].
2. Select [Switch to Penpower Zhuyin Keypad].
3. Input Zhuyin symbols: Penpower Zhuyin Keypad will automatically filer out the impossible
Zhuyin symbol combinations.
4. The candidate words will be listed in the first line of the keypad. Once you select a word, its
corresponding post related words will be listed.
5. Tap
to use the Chinese voice input function.
Note: A network connection is required for the function of voice input.
6. If you want to switch back to English keypad, simply tap

3. Input Pinyin symbols: Penpower Pinyin Keypad will automatically filer out the impossible
Zhuyin symbol combinations.
4. The candidate words will be listed in the first line of the keypad. Once you select a word, its
corresponding post related words will be listed.
5. Tap
to use the Chinese voice input function.

Cangjie Keypad
1. Tap and hold the [Switch Input Method/Settings] of the left down corner of the screen to

2. Select [Switch to Penpower Cangjie Keypad].
3. Input Cangjie radicals: Penpower Cangjie Keypad will automatically filer out the impossible
radical combinations.
4. The candidate words will be listed in the first line of the keypad. Once you select a word, its
corresponding post related words will be listed.
5. Tap [速成] to switch to Simplified Cangjie Input Method.
6. Tap
to use the Chinese voice input function.
Note: A network connection is required for the function of voice input.
7. If you want to switch back to English keypad, simply tap

Symbol Keypad
1. Tap
to switch to the symbol keypad which contains two pages: full-width symbols and
half-width symbols respectively. Tap

You can set the sound effect on keypress.
Vibrate on keypress
You can set the vibrate effect on keypress.
Handwriting Setting
1. Chinese Recognition Result: You can set the Chinese recognition result as
o Traditional Chinese only: Whether you write Traditional Chinese or Simplified
Chinese, all of the results are in Traditional Chinese.
o Simplified Chinese only: Whether you write Traditional Chinese or Simplified
Chinese, all of the results are in Simplified Chinese.
o Both: You will get traditional characters while using traditional writing, and you
will get simplified words while using simplified writing.
2. Ink Color: Select the color of inking.
3. Ink Width: Select the thickness of inking.
4. Handwriting Area：You can set the portrait mode as Writing pad or Fullscreen.
5. Infinity Writing Mode: If you are learning Chinese handwriting or you are not familiar
with handwriting, this feature is suitable for you.
Note: The landscape mode and English Handwriter are the infinity writing mode by
default.
6. Writing Speed: Select the writing speed. The less the relative value is, the shorter
the timeout for recognition after you’ve stopped writing.
