Industrial-Use SD Cards with a “Visible” Lifespan
SD cards and microSD cards, which have mainly been
used for consumer products such as digital cameras,
have also come to be used for industrial equipment and
embedded equipment. However, most consumer-use
SD cards are designed for low cost by equipping them
with MLC or TLC flash memory. As a result, they are not
suitable for storing operating systems or file systems.
TDK’s industrial-use SD cards and microSD cards are
highly reliable SD cards with high durability and SLC
flash memory made in Japan. In addition, “TDK SMART”
SD life monitor software for confirming the lifespan of
the SD card can be downloaded from the TDK website to
allow maintenance such as presettings for replacement
times to be conducted easily.

High-Reliability SD Memory Cards
The MMGB/MUGB series are SD/microSD cards with high level of
high-speed performance, data reliability, storage lifespan, and data security.
These series feature high-speed access that is compatible with CLASS10,
as well as 16 bit ECC, and realizes high data reliability. Using technology
developed for NAND type flash memory controllers, CF cards, and SSDs, a
proprietary algorithm reduces the risk of collateral data errors such as
corruption of data other than the data being written if power is interrupted
when writing data. These SD/microSD cards are ideal for industrial use.
The lifespan of SD cards are also improved drastically. These SD cards are
equipped with highly reliable Single Level Cell (SLC) NAND-type flash
memory, instead of Multi Level Cell (MLC) type NAND flash memory such as
Triple Level Cell (TLC) type NAND flash memory with low endurance, which

Equipped with 16 bits/KByte ECC. These series include the powerful ECC
ability of more than double of 4 bits, 8 bits/1 KByte ECC that is required by the
equipped SLC NAND type flash memory.

Equipped with a global static wear leveling algorithm. This algorithm counts
the number of times each memory block is erased (programmed) and
replaces blocks uniformly, which drastically improves the lifespan of the
installed flash memory.
The 8 GB type for example supports approximately 1.5 billion erase cycles.
Even at a rate of 5 erases per second, this equates to an expected service life
of 10 years. (*3)

TDK SMART life monitor software is included. Since the remained lifespan of
the SD cards/microSD cards is controlled easily, maintenance such as
knowing accurate lifespan and the appropriate timing of replacement.

A dedicated FAE (Field Application Engineer) registration system provides fast
and reliable solutions such as for system compatibility verification and
customizing.

free from hazardous substances prohibited by the RoHS Directives of the EU

with advanced writing dispersing mechanism by the all area global static
wear leveling algorithm to achieve the industry's highest class storage
lifespan, which is enough also for industrial area, in which they are used for
a long term with high frequency.
At the same time, SD card life monitor and diagnose software with rewriting
lifespan monitor function, “TDK SMART” is included, which was requested
frequently by customers who employed CF cards or SSD. The number of
programming (erasing) times of all memory blocks can be retrieved as
SMART information, which makes it easy to figure out a good timing for
maintenance and module replacement.
