Primary lithium battery system BA 5590 B/U 12 V Primary lithium sulfur dioxide (LiSO2) battery The battery consists of 10 LO 26 SX cells connected in 2 groups of 5 cells in series providing 2 nominal 12 V sections at connector. These sections can be connected in series (for 24 V) in parallel (for 12 V), or used as two separate 12 V units. Key Features ■■ A non-replaceable fuse is incorporated in the negative leg of each series group of cells ■■ A normally closed high temperature switch or thermal fuse is incorporated into each series group of cells to protect against overheating ■■ A diode is incorporated into the positive leg of each series group of cells to prevent charging or flow of current into the battery ■■ A device consisting of a manually activated pull tab and resistors designed to discharge the battery to 0 V is built into the battery Typical applications ■■ AN/PRC-104 Radio ■■ AN/PRC-113 Radio ■■ AN/PRC-117 Radio ■■ AN/PRC-119 Sincgards Radio ■■ AN/PRC 150 ■■ KY-57, KY-65 Encryption set ■■ REMBASS Remotely monitored battlefield surveillance system ■■ PLRS position locator and reporting system ■■ RT-991 buoy radio ■■ RT-1175 buoy radio ■■ AN/TAS-4A TOW night sight Electrical characteristics Maximum OCV Nominal voltage (at 500 mA) Cut-off Typical capcity +21˚C / +70˚F (at 2 A discharge current) Operating temperature Storage (Recommended max) (Possilbe) Physical characteristics Typical weight Weight of Li metal content Width Height Depth Battery case 12 V mode 24 V mode 15 V 30 V 13.5 V 27 V 10 V 20 V 15 Ah at 12 V 7.5 Ah at 24 V -40˚C to +71˚C / -40˚F to +160˚F +35˚C / +95˚F -40˚C to +71˚C / -40˚F to +160˚F Metric Imperial 1,000 g 35.3 oz 24.0 g 0.85 oz 62.2 mm 2.45 in 111.8 mm 4.40 in 127.0 mm 5.00 in Plastic References Mating connector Reference specifications Nato Stock Number (BA 5590/U) IT Cannon CA 110821-6 MIL PRF 49471B or Saft standard specification 6135-01-036-3495 6135-01-438-9450 BA 5590 B/U Capacity vs. rate at various temperatures 9 61.44±0.79 mm (2.419±0.031 in) Capacity (Amphours) 8 54˚C 0˚C 6 -30˚C 5 4 20.6 mm (0.81 in) 19.1±0.79 mm (0.750±0.031 in) 21˚C 7 -40˚C 3 19.1±0.79 mm (0.75±0.031 in) 0 1 2 3 Discharge Rate (Amps) 30 2 A discharge typical curves temperatures (24 V mode) 29 28 111.0±0.79 mm (4.369±0.031 in) 21˚C 54˚C 0˚C -30˚C -40˚C Voltage 27 26 25 24 126.2±0.79 mm (4.969±0.031 in) 23 22 21 20 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 Discharge Capacity (Ah) 30 Typical discharge curves at various rates at at +21˚C 29 .25 A 0.5 A 1A 2A 28 Voltage 27 26 25 24 23 22 21 20 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 Discharge Capacity(Ah) Saft 12, rue Sadi Carnot 93170 Bagnolet France Tel.: +33 (0)1 49 93 19 18 Fax: +33 (0)1 49 93 19 69 www.saftbatteries.com Saft 313 Crescent St. Valdese, NC 28690 - USA Tel.: +1 (828) 874 4111 Fax: +1 (828) 874 3981 www.saftbatteries.com Doc N° 31102-2-1111 Edition: November 2011 Information in this document is subject to change without notice and becomes contractual only after written confirmation by Saft.
