ANADIGICS Technology Improves Talk Time
Providing HELP™ for Smartphones and Handsets
ANADIGICS first generation of High-Efficiency-at-Low
Power (HELP™) power amplifiers were introduced in
2004. They quickly became designers’ preferred choice
for CDMA designs because these innovative products
greatly improved battery life and talk time in cellular
handsets without additional components. Each subsequent
generation of HELP™ products has raised the standard
of performance for CDMA, WCDMA and LTE mobile
devices establishing ANADIGICS as the leader in 3G &
4G power amplifier performance.
ANADIGICS latest generation HELP™ products deliver
long battery life and use time in voice and data modes.
These switched mode power amplifiers optimize current
consumption at several output power modes through
internal changes in the RF amplification circuits, enabling
excellent efficiency across the entire dynamic range of
operation. When the device is not transmitting, switching
into the lowest power state minimizes the quiescent or
idle current with the output power and linearity required
for reliable voice or data modes. HELP3™, HELP4™ and
HELP5™ PA’s are designed to operate efficiently from a
fixed battery voltage and also with variable voltage from a
DC-DC converter or switched-mode power supply (SMPS).
ANADIGICS HELP3™ power amplifier products have two
mode states that simplify phone calibration. Quiescent
(idle) currents are typically 8mA or less. Some products
include built-in RF couplers to support power control in
many popular chipsets.
ANADIGICS HELP4™ power amplifier products have
three mode states to maximize power added efficiency
over the entire range of mobile device power outputs.
Quiescent (idle) currents of HELP4™ products are 3mA or
less. All HELP4™ products include built-in RF couplers
and internal DC-blocks on the RF in/out ports.
ANADIGICS HELP5™ power amplifier products are
designed with two mode states for simple calibration
and improved efficiency with an SMPS or operating
directly from the battery. Quiescent (idle) currents of
HELP5™ products are 3mA or less. HELP5™ products
include built-in RF couplers and internal DC-blocks on
the RF in/out ports.
Most ANADIGICS single-band products are offered in
3x3mm packages. Dual-band designs are offered in both
a 3x5mm and a 3x4mm package, the smallest footprint
per-band on the market today. Common footprint and
pinouts simplify RF layouts for multiband 3G designs and
enable design reuse.

3G/4G connections
ANADIGICS’ highly integrated dual band power amplifier and duplexer
module (PAD) is a front end module for WCDMA and LTE handsets. It incorporates HELP3E™ technology to provide three selectable bias modes
to optimize efficiency for different output power levels, and a shutdown
mode with low leakage current, increasing handset talk and standby time.
The module can be used with a DC/DC-converter with a voltage of down to
0.5 V. The module includes two PA’s, two duplexers with balanced Rx ports,
and a daisy-chained high directivity power coupler to provide a complete
RF front end for dual-band handsets.

High Efficiency, High Linearity for Wireless Broadband Applications
High linearity, low noise
design for maximum signal
fidelity over a wide range
of conditions
WiMAX and LTE systems enable high-speed data and Internet connectivity
at home and on-the-go. Our PA modules offer exceptionally high
efficiency and linearity to satisfy the demanding requirements of scalable
OFDM modulation used in 4G standards like WiMAX and LTE. The
results are longer operating times for mobile applications with excellent
coverage and signal integrity and smaller, high power customer premise
equipment (CPEs) for reliable high speed connectivity at home. The PAs
are fully compatible with advanced features such as quality of service
(QoS) and low latency, which support time sensitive and loss sensitive
multimedia applications including streaming video and VoIP.

A Complete Hybrid Solution
Our hybrid line amplifiers offer a robust design optimized for exceptionally
low distortion and noise figure. Consisting of two pairs of parallel
amplifiers, each hybrid line amplifier combines industry-leading levels of
linearity with exceptional return loss and a high tolerance to ESD and
voltage transients. With a monolithic GaAs design in a standard SOT115J
package, the hybrid amplifiers can be used in distribution nodes, system
amplifiers, and line extenders in CATV HFC systems.

High Integration Makes “Light” Work
Crystal Clear Video
Fiber-to-the-Home is a hot choice for providing broadband triple-play
voice, video, and data services. ANADIGICS has a cool solution specifically
designed to simplify the fiber-to-coax transition at the optical network
terminal. Our highly integrated power amplifiers include a low-noise
front end and greater than 20 dB of voltage-controlled gain adjustment,
delivering +18 to +21 dBmV per channel in a space-saving, highperformance solution.
With a 50 to 1000 MHz operating frequency range, these devices
offer excellent linearity to maintain low CTB and CSO levels in a fully
loaded spectrum. To simplify design and save external board space,
these amplifiers offer a high-impedance input interface to a photodiode
without the need for a transformer in the matching circuit.
