DC/DC converter saves board space with SIP ceramic…
BI TECHNOLOGIES ’ DC/DC CONVERTER
ELIMINATES HEAT SINK R EQUIREMENTS
ANAHEIM, CA (February 26, 2007) – Providing designs engineers with an efficient,
versatile point-of- load device for a variety of applications, TT electronics BI Technologies
Electronic Components Division offers a fixed five-volt output DC/DC converter. Designated
Model 831, the two-watt converter is packaged in a hybrid SIP configuration and uses a ceramic
base and hybrid technology to virtually eliminate any heat sinking requirements.
“Requiring only two external capacitors and no heat sinks, the robust, efficient design of
the DC/DC converter makes it easy to use and inexpensive to implement,” said Mike OchoaHougan, product manager for BI Technologies Electronic Components Division. “With a wide
input voltage range, tight load regulation, and current limit protection, the converter is suitable for
a variety of applications, including commercial applications with a need for a point-of- load source
of low- voltage power for control circuitry.”

The 2W converter features a fixed output voltage of 5V (3.3V available) at up to 400mA,
and an input voltage range of 12VDC to 32VDC. Line regulation is 1.0% (measured at 16V to
32V at 400mA) with load regulation of 1.0% (at 100mA to 400mA). Operating temperature is
-10°C to +70°C. BI Technologies will also produce devices outside these specifications to meet
customer requirements.
The Model 831 DC/DC converter measures 1.0 inch long and 0.5 inch high, and is 0.225
inch thick, with typical lead spacing of 0.10 inch. The converter can also be vertically or
horizontally mounted.
Typical pricing for the Model 831 converter is approximately $4.00 in medium range
volumes, with lead times from stock to 8 weeks.
