They use BJT or FET devices to feature ultra wide frequency bands, small power variation over frequency and low phase noise. Integrated buffer amplifiers are used to achieve reduced frequency pulling and higher output powers. These VCOs use compact, light weight hermetic packages including TO-8 packages through 4GHz, SMD packages through 8GHz and SMA type packages for frequencies from 7GHz to 18GHz.
