X2 capacitors used in AC series power supplies must not lose more than 10% of capacitance during the expected life (e.g., 15 years) to ensure correct operation. If inappropriate X2 capacitors are chosen, corona discharge can reduce metallization and consequently capacitance. Humidity will increase this effect. Not all X2 capacitors are appropriate for outdoor environments.
