KEMET Products
I/O interfaces such as notebook computer
USB and PC Card ports have the following
clearly defined power limitations:
• USB 2.0: 0.5A @ 5V
• PCMCIA: 1A @ 3.3V
However, the 578 µs transmission burst
within the GSM-TDM protocol requires a
peak current between 1.5A and 2A.
Select a bulk capacitance of approximately 1000 µF in parallel to the System Power/Power
Amplifier. Due to the height limit, especially on the PC Card slot, the capacitance solution must
be ≤ 2 mm. The following chart outlines possible design options:
