Description
BCM peak efficiencies can exceed 98% and power densities can reach up
to 2,750 W/in3, allowing modern power system designs to be both small
and highly efficient. Moreover, by leveraging high frequency Zero-Voltage
Switching (ZVS) and Zero-Current Switching (ZCS) in a proprietary topology,
BCMs are able to deliver this efficiency and power density with extremely
low noise and fast transient response.
Finally, the BCM’s low AC impedance, beyond the bandwidth of most
downstream regulators, enables bulk capacitance, normally located at the
input of a regulator, to be placed at the high voltage input to the BCM. This
reduces the bulk capacitance requirement and offers savings of board area
and system cost.
Offered in a range of packages and power ranges, Vicor BCMs can provide a
cost effective solution for most customer requirements.

Vicor Bus Converter Modules (BCMs) are a family of state-of-the-art,
modular power components which provide an isolated, unregulated output
to efficiently power a common system bus or individual Point-of-Load
(PoL) converters.
Vicor BCMs are fixed ratio power converters, meaning that they convert any
input voltage within a specified input range to an output voltage equal to
the input voltage divided by the BCM’s transformation ratio, or K-factor. By
employing the “Power Component Design Methodology” (PCDM), power
architects can use the BCM to design small, highly differentiated and cost
effective power systems.
