High Efficiency Six-Channel, 1X/1.5X Charge Pump for White LED Applications
Introduction
The AAT3369-1 evaluation board demonstrates the functionality of the AAT3369-1 and its application as a white LED
driver under Skyworks' S2Cwire serial digital interface and/or PWM interface control.
The AAT3369-1 is a low-noise, constant-frequency charge pump DC/DC converter that uses a dual-mode load switch
(1x) and fractional (1.5x) conversion to maximize efficiency for white LED applications. It operates over an input voltage range from 2.7V to 5.5V. The AAT3369-1 is capable of driving 6 white LEDs at a total 126mA. This document
describes the evaluation board and its accompanying user interface. A brief “Getting Started” section is also included
to help the user to begin operating the evaluation board. The AAT3369-1 evaluation board is shown in Figure 1; Figures
2 and 4 depict the board schematic and layout. For additional information, please consult the AAT3369-1 product
datasheet.

Getting Started
The board has two terminals labeled DC+ and DC- for the input power supply connection. Jump the J1 to the left position to connect the DC+ power to AAT3369-1 IN. Jump the V_MCU to connect the DC+ power to microcontroller VIN.
Jump PWM and EN/SET to connect the microcontroller GPIOs to the AAT3369-1 PWM and EN/SET. Jump J2 to the S2C
position to set the microcontroller to generate S2Cwire signal to control the AAT3369-1 with 32 steps of LED current
from 21mA to 0.3mA. Jump J2 to the PWM position to set the microcontroller to generate PWM signal with varied duty
cycle from 5% to 100%; this signal is connected to AAT3369-1 PWM pin to control the LED current. After all jumpers
are in the correct positions, apply power between 2.7V and 5.5V to the DC+ and DC- terminals to power the AAT33691 (U1) and microcontroller (U2); the red LED (LED2) should illuminate when the microcontroller is powered. Figure 3
shows the connection of the AAT3369-1 board under microcontroller S2Cwire and PWM control.

The 6 white LEDs may be dimmed or brightened using the EN/SET serial data S2Cwire interface, PWM interface, or both
S2Cwire and PWM interface through the J2 jumper and the three buttons: UP, DOWN and CYCLE.
S2Cwire Control Only
Jump the J2 to the S2C position to set microcontroller to generate S2Cwire data according to the status of the three
buttons. The AAT3369-1 records rising edges of the EN/SET pin and decodes them into 32 maximum individual current
level settings from 21mA to 0.3mA as shown in Table 1.
• UP button: The UP button increments the number of EN/SET edges from 1 to 32 when you push the button once.
By holding down the UP button for more than 0.6 seconds, the microcontroller enters auto-increment mode. The
LED will dim and wrap back after S2Cwire data 32.
• DOWN button: The DOWN button decrements the number of EN/SET edges from 32 to 1 when you push the button
one time. By holding down the Down button for more than 0.6 seconds, the microcontroller enters auto-decrement
mode. The LED will brighten and wrap back after S2Cwire data 1.
• CYCLE button: The button increments or decrements the number of EN edges automatically and cyclically after
single push based on whether the last S2Cwire rising edge number is increasing or decreasing.
• UP+DOWN+CYCLE button: Sets the EN/SET to 0V after pressing all the three buttons at the same time. If the PWM
is also 0V at the time, the AAT3369-1 is shut down and all white LEDs are turned off.

PWM Control Only
The maximum white LED current is 21mA when adopting only PWM control. Before power up, jump J2 to the PWM
position to set the microcontroller to generate square waveform with duty cycle changed from 5% to 100% with 5%
steps according to the three buttons status.
• UP button: The UP button increments the duty cycle from 5% to 100% with 5% steps when you push the button one
time. By holding down the UP button for more than 0.6 seconds, the microcontroller enters auto-increment mode.
The LED will brighten to 100% and wrap back to 5%.
• DOWN button: The DOWN button decrements the duty cycle from 100% to 5% when you push the button one time.
By holding down the Down button for more than 0.6 seconds, the microcontroller enters auto-decrement mode. The
LED will dim to 5% and wrap back to 100%.
• CYCLE button: The duty cycle is incremented or decremented automatically and cyclically after single push based on
the last PWM duty cycle setting.
• UP+DOWN+CYCLE button: Setting the PWM to 0V after pushing down all the three buttons at the same time. If the
EN/SET is also 0V at the time, AAT3369-1 is shut down and all white LEDs are turned off.
Both S2Cwire and PWM control
When adopting both S2Cwire and PWM control, the maximum LED current can be set by EN/SET S2Cwire interface and
LED brightness is changed by PWM with varied duty cycle from the set maximum LED current to almost zero value.
The operation steps are
1. Jump J2 to the S2C position.
2. Power on and use one of the three buttons to set the white LED current to a certain value you want as the maximum
LED current.
3. Jump J2 to PWM position.
4. Press one of the three buttons to observe the white LED dimming or brightening under the PWM control with varied
duty cycle.
1. The LED current accuracy is compromised at high DATA settings.

Description
[Push/Release once]: Increment the number of EN/SET edge; Toggles through the available dimming level settings for the backlighting section.
