We’re all online now. And it may not be obvious but time matters as
we send all those bits back and forth. Whether buying on EBay,
trading stock, emailing, streaming video, or online gaming… exact
relative time and time of day are critical. The telecom industry solved
this in the late 80’s with the synchronous optical network (SONET)
and it’s timing hierarchy: Stratum 1, …. down to Stratum 15, where
Stratum 0 is an atomic clock.
M615x Series provides network and wireless engineers extremely
tight stability over temperature and time. Proprietary in-house crystal
processing enables full Stratum 3 compliance. But check your
requirements carefully: M615x Series stability specifications include
hysteresis where competing solutions may not.
For Internet business servers, it’s Stratum 3 that applies. Stratum 3
clocks in a lab environment must drift less than 0.04 ppm per day
after loss of sync to a Stratum 2 reference. In real-world operation
over all possible conditions including temperature, holdover stability
must be less than 0.34 ppmp-p per day
MtronPTI’s M610x Series TCXO already meets stability and holdover
for Stratum 3 applications. Select the compatible M615x Series
instead and you’ll get 5 dB to 6 dB lower close-in phase noise – more
design margin for the rest of your board or potentially lower overall
system bit error rate.
The same stringent processes that boost long-term stability and
minimize frequency shift after reflow also bring excellent g-sensitivity
(1.5 ppb/g) and lower close-in phase noise (typically -102 dBc/Hz @
10 Hz offset compared to about -95 dBc/Hz on the M610x).
Lower phase noise, low g-sensitivity, low drift, 8 MHz to 38.88 MHz:
the M615x Series is ideal for any application requiring a stable, quiet
timing reference source.
