Carol Burr with Mitre, supporting Systems Engineering on the Production System, presented the “DCP AOC
Working Group for Production” slides. The purpose of this presentation is to review the production elements
prior to moving into development. The discussions aligned with the slide agenda. Some side comments and
discussions:
o The Gate Request message is not being used in any phase of trials. This will be added for the Production
system.
o Users have option to tailor Dispatch message preferences via Subscriber Data Base – The consensus at
the DCIT was to have all or nothing in this case. (See a, b, c, & d)
o Available documentation is a topic of discussion. A technical instruction book will be coming out, and
the details are being worked now.
o Field 18/DAT – Proposed codes for Data Comm are covered in slides 15 – 16.
o Slide 17 - If CPDLC service for DCL is not available, FAA automation will “fall back” to PDC.
Andrew Onken discussed the Systems Integration description Document (SIDD) updates.
o SIDD level will most likely stay the same between Phase 1 and Phase 2. (EWR does not need a gate
request.)
 Every time the document is baselined, the version number will be changed. Versioning will be
flipped to 2.0 to keep the document in line with the FAA versioning system.
 “Initial Maintain” is not a message issue
Rob Mead discussed the UM83 issue.
o Action to waiting – MD11 & Airbus has 747 but does opposite.
o What MD11 looks like if we don’t add the AT point.
o ACTION: 1) Red issue change way DTAP sends uplink; 2) whatever is done, there will always be a
problem with an aircraft. There is not a solution that resolves all aircraft issues.
o UM83 will have an On/Off switch.
o Replace UM83 with UM80. This is under FULL requirements.
 The impact to aircraft – A partial load and revert to voice.
 Inputs to Production – On/Off for UM83; turn “off” until it is fixed. Build with a switch to toggle
between the two options. This is the best solution and will be a Phase 1 requirement.
 This will be added to the End-to-End document.
 Three Day trials - Six existing PTRs to be fixed before 3 day trials on April 26th.
 PTR 122 can be fixed if filing is correct
 UM80/83 patch schedule discussed
 Failure modes take last element of route & makes it partial load.
The group adjourned for the afternoon.
