Catalog Products (EAR99/Non-ITAR)
Teledyne Microwave Solutions (TMS) offers all types of detectors
with both analog and threshold designs operating from 10MHz to
26GH, with excellent power temperature stability. The detectors
are MIL-PRF38534 and ISO 9001 certified, and incorporate either
planar gemanium tunnel diodes or silicon Schottky diodes with video
amplifiers and comparators.
With over 50 ITAR-free designs, many packaging options and with
up to 10nS pulse response, TMS is able to offer the right detector to
meet your particular application.

APPLICATION NOTES
This unit is DC coupled and employs a RF choke at the input (DC short).
DO NOT bypass the Threshold Control pin. Capacitance greater than 50pF may cause
instabilities. Keep the threshold programming resistor or circuit close to this pin.
Average power detection is obtained at power levels below approximately –13 dBm.
The output of this unit is derived from an op-amp, not a true logic device.
Connect external threshold resistor from Rcntl port to ground.

APPLICATION NOTES
This unit is DC coupled and employs a RF choke at the input (DC short). If the application
calls for the input to sink current there will be approximately an additional 1 mV of output
offset voltage for each 3 mA of current. Sink current should be limited to 100 mA max to
avoid choke burnout.
For higher supply voltages, up to ±15 volts, the positive supply pin must include a series
current limiting resistor, Rs = (Vs – 5) / 0.01 (e.g., Vs = +15v, Rs = 1.0KΩ).
Average power detection is obtained at power levels below approximately –13 dBm.
For best pulse response the supply pins should be bypassed with an additional
1.0 µF capacitor. The unit contains 0.01 µF internal capacitors.

APPLICATION NOTES
DTS6014 is a sensitive microwave threshold detector which provides efficient and accurate
RF level measurement.
DTS6014 is configured using two Schottky diode detectors, high precision comparator, and
a compensated voltage reference to provide excellent temperature stability.
DTS6014 is specifically designed for system built-in test and channel RF activity monitoring.
The output of this unit is derived from a comparator, a true TTL logic device.
Average power detection is obtained at power levels below approximately 0 dBm.
DTS6014 contains open-collector comparator with internal 5.1 KOhm pull-up resistor. Pulse
response (Low-to-Hi state) can be sped up by using external pull-up resistor. Max sink current is 6.0 mA.
Connect external threshold resistor from Rcntl port to ground.

APPLICATION NOTES
This unit is DC coupled and employs a RF choke at the input (DC short). If the application
calls for the input to sink current there will approximately be an additional 1 mV of output
offset voltage for each 3 mA of current. Sink current should be limited to 100 mA max to
avoid choke burnout.
For higher supply voltages, up to ±15 volts, the positive supply pin must include a series
current limiting resistor, Rs = (Vs – 5)/0.01. (e.g.: Vs = 15v, Rs = 1K)
Average power detection is obtained at power levels below approximately –13 dBm.
For best pulse response both supply pins should be bypassed with an additional
1.0 µF capacitor. The unit contains 0.01 µF internal capacitors.

APPLICATION NOTES
DAQ6116 is configured using two anti-parallel connected schottky diodes to form an
unbiased peak to peak microwave detector with a differential output voltage.
The harmonic distortion reflected back to the system can be significantly lower than single
ended design because all even order harmonics are suppressed, typically > 40 dB.
The output voltage (differential) is a closer representation of the true rms power of
modulated or distorted signals because both positive and negative waveform peaks are
detected.
The DAQ6116 is intended for higher level detection applications (> 0 dBm) requiring good
temperature stability and harmonic suppression.

APPLICATION NOTES
This unit is DC coupled and employs a RF choke at the input (DC short). If the application
calls for the input to sink current there will approximately be an additional 1 mV of output
offset voltage for each 3 mA of current. Sink current should be limited to 100 mA max to
avoid choke burnout.
For higher supply voltages, up to ±15 volts, the positive supply pin must include a series
current limiting resistor, Rs = (Vs – 5)/0.01. (e.g.: Vs = 15v, Rs = 1K)
Average power detection is obtained at power levels below approximately –13 dBm.
For best pulse response both supply pins should be bypassed with an additional
1.0 µF capacitor. The unit contains 0.01 µF internal capacitors.

Response time increases as RF signal is decreased (also due to increasing video gain)
A logging amplifier follows this RF detector. Since the power range covers both the square
law and linear regions of the detector, the transfer curve is not linear with Pin (dB).
However, a smooth relationship exists which can be easily programmed and calibrated.
This detector is accurate for CW signals and will have a different output for signals
containing harmonics or AM levels exceeding about -20 dBc.
