1.5 COPT
Capacity Optimization (COPT) is a function to optimize computing resources by enabling CPU cores as many
required per workload without any impact to the number of DIMM and PCI slots which depends on CPU
configuration.
When necessary, CPU core can be enabled additionally on-site.
COPT is available only with A2040b COPT supported model (NEC Express5800/A2040b (COPT)).
In order to enable CPU core, Core Activation Key should be ordered for the required number of cores.

When enabling CPU core (or socket) by Core Activation Key, please purchase required software license
as appropriate

In case of using socket license based software, please enable CPU core at the CPU socket on which the
software is operating. Software license is required for the socket with at least one enabled CPU core.

Depending on the OS, the server may need to be rebooted to enable CPU cores

Remarks to use COPT under Linux environment
- In case of using Fibre Channel Controller (16Gbps) [NE3390-157A/-158A], need to enable enough
CPU cores to have 4 or more logical processors.

Remarks to use COPT under Windows environment
- Depending on the number of CPU cores to be enabled, PCI cards have limitations to install. Please
refer to “PCI Slot: Available Slots and Installation Limitations”.

Remarks to use COPT under VMware environment:
- Need to purchase the same number of One Core Activation Key as the number of CPU socket.
- Need to enable the same count of CPU cores among all CPUs (excluding CPUs with all cores
disabled)

4.2 Internal Drive Configuration






For RAID Configuration, same type of internal drives need to be ordered within one RAID group (pack)
With 1 RAID Controller configuration, different HDDs, SDDs or HDD and SSD cannot be configured in
the BTO. When mixing these drives, please refer to the section “Internal Disk” at “References”.
RAID 0/1/5/6/10 can be configured at BTO Configuration. For RAID 50/60, need to configure after the
delivery.

With 2 RAID Controller configuration, the 2 RAID Controller and 5 and more HDDs under the 2 RAID
Controller cannot be configured at BTO Configuration.
With 2 RAID Controller configuration, RAID cannot be configured between internal drives under different
RAID Controllers.
The delivery lead time of SSD is longer than the others. Please contact to our sales representative for the
delivery.

NIC Teaming and bonding features are available with this server to provide network redundancy and load
balancing for higher network reliability and optimized network loads.
Under Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 environment, teaming feature is supported with BASP (Broadcom
Advanced Server Program). Under Windows Server 2012 (and later) and Linux environement, network

2. Memory on the Memory Riser Card (DIMM): Priority/Order of Installation
The priority/order to install DIMM on a Memory Riser Card depends on memory configuration.
Memory Configuration Mode consists of 2; “Independent Mode” for high performance and “Lockstep Mode”
for high availability
Under each mode, there are 2 features to improve availability further; “Memory Mirroring” and “Memory Rank
Sparing”.
2-1. Lockstep Mode
“Lockstep Mode” supports Error Detect/Correct toward 2x DRAM failures (DDDC) by having a pair of memory
defined among 2x memory channels (CH0 and CH1 or CH2 and CH3) operating in parallel. To use this mode,
need to order memory set including 2 DIMMs per set.
NOTE:

Cannot mix RDIMM and LRDIMM in a server

Lockstep Mode is a standard setting at the server delivery.
For DIMM installation priority/order, (1) to install larger DIMM first, and (2) to install DIMMs to the sockets in
the priority/order shown in the figure below.
2-2. Independent Mode
“Independent Mode” provides more performance by having 4 memory channels operate independently. This
supports Error Detect/Correct toward 1x DRAM failure (SDDC). To use this mode, need to order memory set
including 2 DIMMs per set.

“Memory Mirroring” provide redundancy by writing the same data into 2x memory among different memory
buffers on a Memory Riser Card. To use this feature, need to order memory set including 4 DIMMs per set
Memory Mirroring for each Memory Configuration Mode:
Independent Mode: Mirroring between CH0 and CH2, CH1 and CH3
Lockstep Mode: Mirroring between memory pair on CH0 and CH1 AND memory pair on CH2 and CH3

When using Memory Mirroring, the available memory capacity becomes half of physical capacity.


2.4 Memory Rank Sparing
“Memory Rank Sparing” is the feature to keep operation; with having one of two memory ranks in one memory
channel as a spare, when detecting errors at memory rank in operation, automatically switching to spare rank.
To use this feature, need to order memory set including 4 DIMMs per set
Memory Rank Sparing for each Memory Configuration Mode:
Independent Mode: One of two memory rank in each memory channel is assigned as a spare memory rank
Lockstep Mode: Either a memory pair on CH0 and CH1 OR a memory pair on CH02 and CH03 is assigned
as a spare memory rank.
NOTE:

Cannot mix RDIMM and LRDIMM in a server

When using Memory Rank Sparing, the available memory capacity reduces by the capacity of spare
memory rank:

1/2 of physical memory (8GB RDIMM)

When defining hot spare disk under mixed drive configuration, need to set Dedicated Hot Spare per
RAID group. Global Hot Spare is not available.


For 1x RAID Controller, 2 kinds of HDDs or HDD/SSD can be mixed.
 When SSD/HDD mixed, SSDs are installed first according to the above priority/order, then HDDs
are installed in the remaining drive bays.
 When SSDs with different capacity are mixed, larger SSDs are installed first.
 When HDDs with different rotation speed, higher speed HDDs are installed first. If the speed is

Installation Limitations for Windows Environment
For Windows environment, PCI cards have additional installation limitations as for the number of the cards to be
installed, depending on the combination of the PCI cards. Please refer below for the details.
In case of using CPU SKU with small number of thread and require large I/O space, Hyper Threading is recommended
to “ON” (default setting) in order to avoid performance decrease due to lack of I/O space.

■PCI Card: Priority/Order of Installation
Standard BTO Configuration:
Starting from the PCI cards with higher priority (see the table below), PCI cards are installed to the PCI slots
with higher priority among the available slots per CPU configuration (see the table below). The following basic rules are
applied to BTO configuration. If any other specific installation requirements, BTO configuration will not be applied.

The 1 RAID Controller needs to be installed to Slot#1.

The 2 RAID Controller (if any) will not be installed (out of BTO configuration)

When External RAID Controller has Flash Backup Unit (FBU), the External RAID Controller will not be
installed (out of BTO configuration).

When the number of available PCI slot is 9, up to 8x 1000BASE-T Adapter (4 port) can be installed.

When the number of available PCI slot is 13, up to 12x 1000BASE-T Adapter (4 port) can be installed, AND
