1600 Wall System4 Curtain Wall

1600 Wall System 4
®
The Advanced System that
Responds to All Your Needs
Caesars Palace Tower, Las Vegas, NV
Architect: Bergman, Walls and Youngblood Ltd. Architects, Las Vegas, NV
Glazing Contractor: Accuracy Glass & Mirror, Inc., Las Vegas, NV
The versatile 1600 Wall System®4 offers inside glazing, ease of
fabrication, low installation costs, design options and high thermal
and structural performance. It is the curtain wall that can
accommodate monumental applications, multi-lite punched
openings and ribbon windows in both new and remodel
construction projects. It is truly a product that has it all.
Performance
1600 Wall System®4 incorporates the IsoStrut® Thermal Break at both
the vertical mullion and horizontals. This patented method creates a
continuous thermal barrier that substantially improves thermal
transmission, condensation resistance and structural performance.
IsoStrut® achieves a high-strength bond between the aluminum and
the thermal isolator. This bond creates a highly composite assembly
suitable for use in applications that provide the toughest of thermal
and structural tests – monumental curtain walls – as well as multi-lite
punched openings and ribbon window applications.
For additional economies when the structural performance of IsoStrut®
is not required – for example, in ribbon window applications –
Kawneer’s IsoLock® Pour and Debridge Thermal Break can be
incorporated. Offering superior thermal performance and a singlepiece extrusion, factory-supplied IsoLock® involves pouring liquid
urethane into a cavity or thermal pocket, allowing it to harden and
cutting away a small section of aluminum opposite the pour area to
fully separate the exterior from the interior aluminum. This thermal
barrier improves the U-factor and condensation resistance, and
means there are fewer parts to cut and assemble. Therefore, less
labor is needed and costs are reduced.
1600 Wall System®4 uses the same dry glazing, silicone-compatible
exterior and interior gasket as Kawneer’s other 1600 Wall Systems to
ensure a positive weather seal and high performance. 1600 Wall
System®4 has been tested in accordance with all major standards for
curtain walls:
Air Infiltration
Static Water Penetration
Dynamic Water Penetration
Thermal Transmittance
Structural Performance
Seismic Performance
ASTM E283
ASTM E331
AAMA 501.2
AAMA 1503.1
ASTM E330
UBC Section No. 2334, (H) 2
(Phase I, Phase II)
Economy
The IsoStrut® Thermal Break design of 1600 Wall System®4 provides
complete mullion assembly with no pressure plates, screws, thermal
separators or covers to install. The patented thermal break also
reduces the need for steel reinforcing and lowers initial HVAC
requirements while reducing ongoing energy costs.
Additional labor and cost savings are provided by the ease and
speed of sheer block fabrication, coupled with the low installation
costs of inside glazing and one-step engagement of snap-on exterior
horizontal covers. The system simplifies inventory by utilizing many
other 1600 Wall System parts such as SSG verticals, setting blocks,
weathering, joint plugs, side blocks and fasteners. 1600 Wall
System®4 is offered both as a factory-fabricated and stock-length
product to suit project conditions.

Aesthetics
Since the IsoStrut® Thermal Break design in 1600 Wall System®4
comprises two separate aluminum extrusions, designers can select
different exterior and interior finishes without exceeding budgets.
The 2-1/4" (57.2) face dimension incorporates both a shallow and
deep vertical mullion. 1600 Wall System®4 is offered in both a
6" (152.4) and 7-1/2" (190.5) overall frame depth. The system is also
offered in an economical ribbon application with a 6" (152.4)
frame depth.
The horizontal does not use a pressure plate attachment but a
conventional retaining leg. The system is designed for a 1" (25.4)
infill, with 1/4" (6.4) spandrel glazing accommodated by adapters.
Joint connections feature concealed fasteners to give the system
smooth, uninterrupted sightlines. 1600 Wall System®4 includes inside
and outside 90 and 135 degree corners.
For the Finishing Touch
Permanodic® Anodized finishes are available in Class I and Class II in
seven different color choices.
Painted finishes, including fluoropolymer, that meet or exceed AAMA
2605 are offered in many standard choices and an unlimited number
of specially-designed colors.
Solvent-free powder coatings add the “green” element with high
performance, durability and scratch resistance that meet the
standards of AAMA 2604.

WIND LOAD CHARTS
EC 97911-053
Mullions are designed for deflection limitations in accordance with AAMA TIR-A11 of L/175 up to 13'-6" and L/240 +1/4" above 13'-6". These curves
are for mullions WITH HORIZONTALS and are based on engineering calculations for stress and deflection. Allowable wind load stress for ALUMINUM
15,152 psi (104MPa), STEEL 30,000 psi (207MPa.). Charted curves, in all cases are for the limiting value. If the design wind load is determined
through the analytical procedures of ASCE/SEI 7-10 or earlier editions, the load shall be based on the nominal loads used in allowable stress design.
A 4/3 increase in allowable stress has not been used to develop these curves. For special situations not covered by these curves, contact your
Kawneer representative for additional information.
