Providing panoramic views of the outdoors while meeting the
stringent Canadian CAN/CSA-A440 performance requirements is a
tough challenge. Kawneer set out to address the assignment, and
its 5500 Series IsoWeb® Window is the result.
Ideal for new and retrofit construction, the 5500 Series IsoWeb®
Window enables the designer to leverage the vision area while
maintaining the thermal integrity of the exterior façade.
By employing its high-performance glass-reinforced nylon 6/6
IsoWeb® thermal break technology, the 5500 Series IsoWeb ®
Window meets or exceeds the highest performance levels set forth
by CAN/CSA-A440 for windows. With outstanding condensation
resistance and thermal transmittance performance capabilities,
the 5500 Series raises the standards for design, functionality and
performance.
Performance
The high-performing 4" (101.6 mm) deep 5500 IsoWeb® Window
and 5" (127 mm) deep 5525 IsoWeb® Window achieve a significantly
superior condensation index (I value) and thermal transmittance
(U-factor). A recessed interior leg provides the ability to interface
with air and vapor barriers to ensure the continuity of the seal at the
window perimeter.
The windows have a vented and drained rain screen cavity and
accommodate both 1" (25 mm) and 1-3/4" (44 mm) sealed glass units.
The structural aspects of the product are enhanced through the
thermal break connecting the exterior portion of the frame to the
interior portion. The technology permits composite action, thus
achieving greater load resistance while still offering design flexibility.
Additionally, the “top hat” feature of the 5525 IsoWeb® Window
provides a deeper 5" frame for thicker wall construction and greater
structural capability.
Glass is installed and replaced from the interior side of the window.
The 5500 Series IsoWeb® Windows also accept a full range of projectout, project-in and casement vents.
Aesthetics
Kawneer’s 5500 Series IsoWeb® Window offers the versatility in
design and the high performance required for today‘s building
applications. Whether it is the overall flush appearance provided by
the 5500 IsoWeb® Window with its with extreme frontal placement of
glass or the distinctive “top hat” accent feature of the 5525 IsoWeb®
Window you are looking for, this window provides a solution.

THERMAL TRANSMITTANCE
E.C. 97911-22
The window thermal transmittance values (U - values) shown in the chart below are based on CSA - A440.2 "Energy Performance
Evaluation of Windows and Sliding Glass Doors." U - values of the center of glass, edge of glass, and frame areas were computed using
the VISION and FRAME thermal simulation programs. Overall window U - values were calculated using the following relationship:
U w = (U c A c + U e A e + U f A f )/A w
where
U w = U-value of complete window product
U c = calculated center of glass U-value
U e = calculated edge of glass U-value
U f = calculated frame U-value
A c = center of glass area
A e = edge of glass area
A f = frame area
A w = total window area
OVERALL WINDOW U-VALUE (U w )
For fixed and operating window configurations as shown with height (h) equal to width (w).

For some regions and projects there may be minimum energy efficiency requirements for the building envelope, and its components,
including windows. The shading coefficient (SC) and the thermal transmittance (U - value) of the window is then required to determine
whether the building design complies with the specified energy requirements. Shading coefficient depends on the glass selected and
should be obtained from the glass supplier. The U - value of the window varies with the type of glass and sealed unit edge construction,
the window frame, and the relative areas of these components.
