Reason for Change: Originally sold as an Integration Associates product (“IA2410”), the Si8540 has been re-qualified for full production release according to Silicon Laboratories corporate policies, resulting in improvement from MSL3 to MSL2A moisture sensitivity level. Impact on Form, Fit, Function, Quality, Reliability: Moisture sensitivity level (MSL) has been improved from MSL3 to MSL2A for the SOT-23 package (Si8540-B-FW). The SOIC package was already qualified for MSL2A. MSL specifies the maximum time period for which the device can be exposed to ambient room conditions before it must be mounted and reflowed onto the target printed circuit board. While MSL3 only allows 168 hours out of bag, MSL2A allows up to 4 weeks. This enables greater manufacturing flexibility for customers. The datasheet has been re-released to reflect the MSL2A qualification results. The Si8540 updated datasheet is available at www.silabs.com.
