Description of Changes:
1. Silicon Change: Silicon Labs is pleased to announce the availability of revision B silicon for
the Si5338/35/34/56A/56B. Revision B improves operation in spread spectrum clock
generation applications by fixing an erratum related to down spread and by updating how
the device is configured for center spread applications. The device datasheets have been
updated to remove all device errata, highlight new configuration requirements for center
spread operation and provide updated orderable part number information.
2. Package Lead Frame Change: The lead frame is being modified on all
Si5338/35/34/30/55/56A/56B devices to improve overall manufacturability and capacity.
The new lead frame makes a minor change in the lead shape as shown in the table below.
This minor change is negligible and does not require changes to the PCB land pattern.
NOTE: All revision B products use the new lead frame. Revision A products may use either
the current lead frame or the new lead frame after the PCN effective date (15 May 2013).

Customers are encouraged to transition to revision B as soon as possible. However, as a
courtesy to customers Silicon Labs will support extended revision A order and shipment
dates beyond the PCN effective date. Please see the “Last Date of Unchanged Product”
section below for these extended deadlines.

Reason for Changes:
1. Revision B corrects an erratum in the affected devices’ down spread spectrum operation.
Information concerning the spread spectrum operation of revision B is documented in the
updated datasheets of all affected part numbers. See the datasheets for updated
information about changes to center spread configuration and operation of revision B. The
datasheets are available at www.silabs.com. If you have questions about the revised
datasheet, please see your Silicon Labs’ Sales Representative. A list of Silicon Labs’ Sales
Representatives is also available at www.silabs.com
2. Silicon Labs’ package supplier modified the current lead-frame to improve manufacturing
efficiency.
Impact on Form, Fit, Function, Quality, Reliability:
There are no changes to Fit, Quality or Reliability.
Form: There is a minor change to the lead shape as shown in “Description of Change.” Customers
do not need to make any changes to their PCB design or manufacturing process to accommodate
this change.
Function: Revision B corrects an erratum with the down spread spectrum feature. See the
datasheets for updated information about changes to center spread configuration and revision B
operation.

How to order Rev B of your existing Rev A part number:
All existing Rev A part numbers have Rev B equivalent part numbers available for immediate
ordering. The new part numbers use the same part number convention but change the revision
to “B” as denoted in the datasheet ordering guide and the example below.
Example: If using revision A part number Si5338C-A01909-GM, revision B of this part number is
Si5338C-B01909-GM. The datasheet addendum for any custom device can be downloaded using
the online lookup utility: http://www.silabs.com/products/clocksoscillators/clock-generatorsand-buffers/Pages/clockbuilder-lookup.aspx.
How to configure a new custom Rev B part number:
 For the Si5338/34/56A/56B: Use ClockBuilder Desktop software (version 6.0 or later) to
generate an NVM file for new custom part numbers:

NVM files created by earlier versions of the ClockBuilder Desktop software cannot be used
to create new part numbers.


Lead frame change product identification:
 Revision A products marked with a date code (YYWW) of “1314” (Year = 2013, Work week
= 14) or later use the new lead frame. Refer to the marking diagrams in the datasheets for
more information.
 All revision B products use the new lead frame.
