MIC5353 Evaluation Board

MIC5353 Evaluation Board
500mA LDO in 1.6mm × 1.6mm Package
General Description
Forcing the enable pin high enables the output
voltage. Do not leave this pin floating as the output
will be in indeterminate state.
The MIC5353 is a high-performance, Ultra Low Dropout
(ULDO™) linear regulator which provides low output noise
of 30μVRMS. The MIC5353 is capable of sourcing 500mA
output current with extremely low dropout voltage of
160mV and low ground current (typically 90µA) making it
ideal for battery operated applications.
The MIC5353 is available in the 1.6mm x 1.6mm Thin
MLF® package occupying only 2.56mm2 of PCB area
which is a significant reduction compared to SC-70 and
2mm x 2mm MLF® packages.
3. Connect the loads to the VOUT terminal (J5) and
ground terminal (J6). The load can be either a
passive (resistor) or active (electronic load). Be
sure to monitor the output voltage at the VOUT (J5)
terminal. The design requires 1µF or greater on
the output to maintain stability from VOUT to GND.
4. Adjust Pin. The MIC5353YMT can be adjusted
from 1.25V to 5.5V by using two external resistors.
R1 of 20KΩ is connected between ADJ and VOUT.
also R2 is connected from ADJ to GND with a
value of 10KΩ. The resistors set the output
voltage based on the following equation:
Requirements
The MIC5353 evaluation board requires an input power
supply that is able to deliver at least 1A within the voltage
range of 2.6V to 6V. The output load can be either active
or passive. The evaluation board includes an input
capacitor of 10μF to compensate for long inductive test
leads.

Precautions
The MIC5353 evaluation board does not have reverse
polarity protection. Applying a negative voltage to the VIN
terminal may damage the device.
The reference voltage is 1.25V (as shown in the
above equation). In this configuration VOUT is set to
approximately 3.75V.
Getting Started
1. Connect an external supply to VIN. Apply the
desired input voltage to the VIN (J2) and ground
terminal (J3) of the evaluation board, paying
careful attention to polarity and supply voltage
(2.6V ≤ VIN ≤ 6V). An ammeter may be placed
between the input supply and the VIN terminal of
the evaluation board. Ensure that the supply
voltage is monitored at the VIN terminal. The
ammeter and power lead resistance can reduce
the voltage supplied to the input.
2. Enable/Disable the MIC5353. The MIC5353
comes with an active high enable pin that allows
the regulator to be disabled. To disable an output,
simply jumper the EN terminal (J1) to the GND
terminal (J3). The enable pin (J1) can be pulled as
high as VIN (J2).
5. Bypass Pin. A 0.1µF capacitor (C2) is provided
from the noise bypass pin to ground to reduce
output voltage noise. The bypass capacitor can be
increased further reducing noise and improving
PSRR. Turn-on time increases slightly with
respect an increase in bypass capacitance.
