FAQ for Quick Installation
Q: Is a specific firmware required for installing Bel’s Copper SFP Transceivers?
A: No, if the MAC is either SGMII or GBIC compliant with Auto-Negotiation ENABLE, simply plug in the RJ45
connector to the SFP Transceivers. Then, insert it into the SFP cage of the system host.
Q: What if the MAC is currently hosting other vendors’ SFP Transceivers with their related firmware?
A: Bel’s SFP Transceivers will not recognize the firmware that is R/W for other vendors such as Finisar, Avago,
etc. MAC should be reset to its original state of SGMII or GBIC compliant to make sure that Auto-Negotiation
is ENABLE and other firmware is purged from the system host. Then, simply install Bel’s SFP Transceivers as
described above.
Q: Can the SFP Transceiver be programmed to switch between the two interfaces such as SGMII or GBIC?
A: Yes, by accessing the PHY registers and following the detailed instructions in the datasheet. However, we
recommend that you select each SFP part number for a dedicated interface.
