The modular base for decentralised automation
The continually expanding product line offers additional service functions
for the FieldPower® Box, such as an integrated maintenance switch or a
fuse branch-off with outage indicator. All functions are modular and can be
combined as needed.
FieldPower® Drive
Bed-plate for decentralised drive technology
Slip-on Starters and Frequency Converters make a condensed solution for
decentralised motor control, provided by the system partner MSF Vathauer.
The consistent integration of FieldPower® power distribution in the new
MOVIFIT® basic from SEW Eurodrive allowed for very short installation times
and reduceded investment costs for systems.
Motor controller devices from Siemens, Eaton and Lenze can be easily
connected using assembled FieldPower® HQ system cables.
NetCalc® makes it easy to calculate, optimise and document the cable lengths
and cross-sections in accordance with VDE specifications (with regards to the
voltage drop, usage load and short-circuit protection).
FieldPower® Control
Decentralised functional box on the power bus
Create a decentralised solution for your application's controller and monitoring
tasks. The housing system modules feature AC and DC power supply
connections and a snap-on mounting rail. The hinged IP54/IP65 seals allow
pre-assembled plug cables to also be used.

FieldPower®
Variable power branching with conventional cables
The innovative power bus system reduces installation costs, maintenance and
outage times. Modular design to fit a variety of tasks.
The power bus contact is designed for the type of conventional round cables
found throughout the world with single-core wires (from 1.5 to 6 mm²) and
finely stranded wires (from 2.5 to 6 mm²). The PUSH IN contacts can be used
to connect supply lines or outlet lines ranging from 0.5 to 10 mm².
FieldPower® MPB
Multi-point bus distribution from BELIMO
Belimo's MP bus is the standard bus solution for climate control systems in
building automation. With FieldPower®-based installations – in the degree of
protection of your choice – the connection and commissioning of sensors and
actuators is more affordable, quicker and safer. The electrician mounts the
FieldPower® MPB Terminal and connects the standard round installation cable.
The Belimo technician inserts the electronics module in the FieldPower® MPB
Terminal and then carries out the initial commissioning procedure.
FieldPower® LED
A rugged lighting solution – also well suited for wind power
FieldPower® LED provides energy-efficient and long-lasting base lighting. The
installation on the power bus is quick and error-free. This lighting solution
can be used in the most demanding environmental conditions – it can even
withstand the extreme impacts and temperatures found within the rotor hub
of a windmill. The multi-voltage input on the FieldPower® LED allows it to
be used around the globe. The special FieldPower® bottom casing allows
pre-assembled cables to be fed into the Pitchbox while still maintaining IP65
protection. The LED lid can be used to provide interior lighting for the hub.
FieldPower® Control
Installation box on the power bus
FieldPower® is an especially affordable solution for wind power facilities since
it enables the entire electrical installation to be prepared ahead of time at
the factory. An electrical expert is no longer needed at the construction site.
The partially assembled modules with switches, outlets and lamps for the
individual tower segments are easily put together on-site.

Quick commissioning with easy measuring of
impedance
In order to protect the facility, the protective device must
be triggered whenever there is a short circuit. This is
possible when the impedance on the power bus line is
constant and minimal. Measurements are used to verify
this. Simple "in-and-out wiring" – though ostensibly
cheaper – can turn into an expensive solution since
motor controller devices must be disconnected during
the measurement process and then re-connected.
FieldPower®, however, features an uncut power line
with constant impedance. The pluggable feature also
makes this very easy to prove.
Modular power bus segments
•Pre-assembled cable segments customised for the
facility modules are ideal for projects with accelerated
timelines. They are particularly well suited for such
projects because they need only be plugged in at the
construction site.
•The power bus can also be used in segments with
various implementations.
Extending and repairing the power bus
An uncut power bus can be terminated wherever
needed. The wire ends should then be protected using
heat-shrink tubes. The power bus can be continued or
enlarged quite easily because it has a full rated capacity
of 41 A / 6 mm² using its PUSH IN contacts.

FieldPower® Drive – the system partner
The FieldPower® Box with motor starter and frequency
converter – an integrated drive solution
The FieldPower® connectivity modules and motorcontroller
modules can be combined as needed – allowing
Weidmüller and MSF Vathauer Antriebstechnik to develop
a bold, innovative solution for boosting the efficiency of
decentralised factory automation.
The motor starter is attached directly to the FieldPower Box
in order to integrate the power distribution and motor control
functions into one enclosure located on-site. The result is
dramatically reduced installation and commissioning times.
Facility planning is also accelerated with this integrated and
flexible drive solution.

The FieldPower® Box with motor controller is available
in different functional variants each with standardised
connection interfaces. Depending on the variant, either
one or two three-phase motors can be connected using
preassembled cables to the IEC-23570-compliant RockStar®
HQ connectors. Pluggable M12 connections provide control

options for an AS interface, sensor system and handheld
controller. On the operating side, LEDs indicate the
operational status, the ASi status and also an error alert
when the motor has overheated.
The integrated VECTOR FieldPower® frequency converter
is a unique variant of this innovative drive solution; it is a
compact, decentralised unit intended for power distribution
and motor control. Its standardsed communication port
(RS 232 with M12 plug) provides a quicker and more
efficient access method for modifying parameters on the
frequency converter. The configuration process is carried out
using either PC-based parameterisation software or a plaintext operator interface.

Helping you plan efficient power distribution
within linear and tree topologies
The advantages offered by the power bus – including the
minimised installation work and the lengths of the cables
that are routed – are really important when working with
modular facility construction or with widely separated
machines.
This decentralisation frees up space in the electrical cabinet
and opens up new potential for efficiency. NetCalc® can be
used for a quick, clear overview of voltage drops and power
capacity utilisation. It can also calculate IK reliably and be
used for sizing the protective equipment.
The graphic editor supports creation of linear, tree and
intermeshed network topologies. Selectable libraries for all

popular drive manufacturers take into account the real load
needs. Power feeds and protective devices can be selected
and sized according to the requirements of the facility. The
"voltage drop" and "current load" values are calculated during
data entry and then signalled on the planned lines using
green, yellow and red colour codes.
Project planning is possible on AC power networks with
symmetric or asymmetric loads, and DC power networks.
The connecting cables can be rated from 0.14 to 25 mm².
You can determine the ideal layout for your lines right on the
screen and also see your system reserves! A prepared project
can be used as a source for exporting order lists, printable
documentation and file documentation.

Troubleshooting suggestions are displayed when the
red "Project plan not allowed" alert window is clicked.
The integrated library routines can be used to integrate
an E-bus or a drive controller integrated and adjacent
to the motor. They can also be used to implement
customisable loads. Product from known manufactures
such as MSF Vathauer, Siemens, SEW, Lenze and
Moeller can already be assigned to one of the base
types listed above. The electrical characteristics of
these products are then automatically used for the
calculations. Unique characteristics, such as the
harmonic component of frequency converters, are
automatically considered.
The calculated results can be shown in the current view
or voltage view.

The short-circuit currents (I1p and I3p) that occur at each
junction are displayed corresponding to the position and
the impedance of the feed source.
Voltage view:
Based on the source voltage, the actual voltage and the
voltage fall (in percent) are displayed for junction. The
system reserves can be seen immediately and clearly.
The element selection tree offers options for power
supply with and without protective device, connecting
lines and busbars or power bus, adjustable load
outlets as motors or standard loads, and all types of
load branching (fuses, controller devices as starters
or frequency converters, either integrated in motor,
adjacent to motor or direct on the power bus). Personal
configurations can be saved in the "user-defined" area of
a library as templates and then re-used.

For the first time, the NetCalc® project
planning tool takes the setup and calculation
methods typically used for high-voltage and
medium-voltage systems and uses them
also for low-voltage (AC and DC) systems.
In cooperation with the Aia Automation
Institute and the Amberg-Weiden College, the
power bus concept has been verified using
Weidmüller's "FieldPower®" installation base.
A software method has also been developed
for calculating frequencies, topologies and
even multiple (DC) power feeds for complex
networks. The practical, student-led test of
the new power bus technology took place
in 2003 in the Electrotechnical Application
Lab at the Amberg College. The college had
first been tasked with testing and functional
verification for the NetCalc software. They
then installed a power bus facility in their lab
for "power electronics and electrical drives"
and integrated it as teaching material.

improved based on market demands and
customer requirements. Extensions are
currently planned for power management and
DC networks. The target is to enable project
planning for networks that are reliable and
highly dependable yet with minimal setup
overhead (such as Cu required) and minimal
power loss (operating costs).

FieldPower® Control features decentralised and modular
functional components with high IP protection, using the ideal
wire connection technology for AC and DC power supplies.
The FieldPower® power distributor (with IP54/65) can
function as a decentralised switch box by adding terminals,
electronics housings and switching and protective units.
Many parts of factory automation can thus be decentralised
using an arrangement of application specific modules.

FieldPower® terminals or a mounting rail can be placed
as needed in the lower section in order to fit the needs
of the individual application. Retractable seals allow
pluggable cables to be inserted quickly.

Add-on to lid
Support pegs in the lid help when attaching mounting
plates or rails. The lids also provide plenty of space for
attaching add-on devices or electronic circuit boards.
Variable fastening mechanisms
The mounting rail provides 54 mm of installation width
and can be used at two heights. This creates space for
wires under the mounting rail.

manufacturer of heating, cooling and climate control
systems, the FieldPower® installation base has been
extended to include the MP bus.
The Multi-point bus is a simple actuating and sensing bus. It
requires neither a special bus line nor a shielded cable. It can
be implemented using the standard TT or NYM installation
cables. However, when using conventional wiring methods,
it is not possible to carry out the installation in a quick and
precise manner. This prevents it from being completely
accepted as a system solution.
Research shows that more than half of all installation errors
occur because of erroneous connections. These occur even
when using a clear connection diagram under clean working
conditions.
But it is not the electricians who are at fault. They must be
familiar with a variety of different communication systems
while struggling with tighter deadlines and the shortage of
qualified personnel.
Now FieldPower® allows them to achieve both goals:
No wiring errors all the way from the controller in the
electrical cabinet to the end device – using standard
installation cable.

Quick installation with no errors
•The installation cable is first partially stripped using Weidmüller AM16 tool
and the individual wires are connected reliably and securely with IDC contacts
(the patented insulation displacement contact with external spring).
•The wires cannot be mixed up since they are never cut all the way through.
Other contact problems, such as insulation that is pushed under, are also no
longer possible.
•The wire colours along with the labelling are within the contact module. So
here too there is no way for a mix-up to occur.
•The end position of the contact discs is clear and can even be seen from a
distance of three metres.

FieldPower® LED
A rugged lighting solution – also well suited for wind power
FieldPower® LED provides energy-efficient and long-lasting
base lighting. The installation on the power bus is quick and
error-free. This lighting solution can be used in the most
demanding environmental conditions – it can even withstand
the extreme impacts and temperatures found within the
rotor hub of a windmill. The multi-voltage input and the
cULus certification on the FieldPower® LED allows it to be
used around the globe.

High availability
Even at –40 °C, the LED lamp operates at full output
without delay. Years of continuous operation is possible
even at 55 °C (MTTF > 50.000 h).
Lighting in the nacelle and hub
The rugged and durable FieldPower® LED
can be operated reliably and over many
years in wind turbines – even under extreme
mechanical stress.
Through-wall plug cables
The module can be used as an IP65 wall feed-through
for three plug cables. This combined functionality leads
to reduced costs and also helps to save space.
Resistant
LED lamp with V0-classified fire protection, stainless
steel screws for corrosive environments (such as offshore facilities), and a coated circuit board to protect
against condensation.
Cranes: Ladders and gangways
The LED module operates reliably on cranes
and can also withstand the high vibrations.
Other features include a compact size, rapid
installation, high degree of protection and
energy efficiency.
Compact and rugged
When mounted on a metal bracket or a metal wall, the
LED lamp is flatter than 5 cm and complies with the
IP65 protection degree.
Wide ranging power bus
The LEDs use very little current so there is only a
minimal voltage drop on the cable. This allows you to
maintain wide-ranging lines with 2.5 – 6 mm².
Tunnels and crossways
The LED light can be used as emergency
lighting with a central supply in accordance
with EN 60598-2-22. Given the extended
100–265 V AC/DC multi-voltage range,
full light intensity is ensured even over long
distances.
Energy efficient and durable
The integrated Power LEDs feature a much longer
lifespan and better energy efficiency when compared
to fluorescent or standard energy-saving bulbs. They
provide the required light values of 10 and 50 Lux
specified in the EN 50308 Standard for wind power
facilities.

FieldPower® Control
Wind power and FieldPower® Box – partners that fit
The FieldPower® Box is a perfect fit for use in wind power
installations. The FP Box is a sturdy and easy-to-service
solution for power distribution; as such it is an ideal match
for the requirements of wind power.
Wind turbine towers are equipped with regularly spaced
outlets and lighting to facilitate maintenance work. Power
generated directly at the top of the tower must then be
distributed under harsh environmental conditions. The
FieldPower® Box features IP65 protection and is perfectly
suited for this task.
The FieldPower® Box is a particularly affordable solution for
wind power facilities since it enables the entire electrical
installation to be prepared ahead of time at the factory. An
electrical expert is no longer needed at the construction site.
The installable modules for the individual tower segments

are easily put together on site. In the same manner,
pre-assembled and pre-tested connectors are used for
connecting the outlets and lighting. This quick installation
process is practically fault-proof and can be undertaken
regardless of the ambient temperature. Later extensions
– including additional branch lines – are just as simple to
execute as the original installation.
Additional service functions are being added to the
FieldPower® Box by our continually expanding product
line. Customised applications can take advantage of the
FieldPower® Control decentralised installation box. With this
versatile installation platform, the outlet connection can be
integrated directly into the power bus.

Installation at different locations
Installation processes optimised for local conditions.
A winning strategy:
•Tower segments are delivered with installed lower
shells.
•Cable segments are pre-assembled at the factory for
a custom fit.
•The cable segments are unrolled at the construction
site and the contact elements are then snapped into
the lower shells.
•The electrical installation units are protected from
vandalism during shipment. They can then be
installed regardless of the temperature.
Connecting tower segments
The segments can be connected in several different
ways:
• An HDC connector in the cable lead
•The FieldPower® PTS 4 plug on the lower segment is
inserted in the FieldPower® Box on the next segment.
•The FieldPower® Terminal is snapped into the top
FieldPower® Box on the next segment and swivelled
in to establish contact.
Since the voltage is supplied from below during
construction and from above when operational, the last
installation option is advisable. The fixed wiring ensures
that all of the power supply installation is secure.

Series-mounted devices can be simply and quickly
installed in the lid of the FieldPower® box. The new
REG assembly set for the FieldPower® series makes it
possible. Users can attach devices containing up to six
section to the lid. These can include circuit breakers,
residual current devices, switches, relays or displays.
Boxes with these configurations, when combined with
their bottom casings, can be positioned and used for
decentralised purposes.

TOOL-TIP
The problem:
When stripping individual wires on a multi-wire
cable, there is a risk that individual strands
exposed on stripped wires can be damaged
by the tool.
The solution:
The stripax® has a unique function for selecting a partial
strip so that the residual insulation stays on the wire. This
prevents the wire from splicing or bending off and simplifies
the subsequent wire processing steps.
