The sparkover gap is a single-pole lightning current arrester complying with the requirements of class
B to DIN VDE 0675 part 6 (draft Nov 89)/A1:Mar 96) and class I to IEC 61643-1 (Feb 98) which
serves as lightning protection equipotential bonding for interface transition 0 to 1 (to IEC 1312-1). This
overvoltage protection is used in TN, TT and IT systems in combination with several lightning
arresters. The use of a sealed, triggered sparkover gap satisfies the inspection requirements for class
B overvoltage protection systems according to the VDEW directive (1st edition, 1998). The arrester is
installed in the vicinity of the incoming line of the system to be protected in a conventional distribution
board. The PU1TSG 35kA-260V is connected to the earthing system between the phase conductors
(L1, L2, L3) and/or the neutral conductor in combination with three or four sparkover gaps. The 3+1
and 3+0/4+0 circuits can be used here. Besides a mains power failure, a function indicator comes on
above 120 Vac to signal the failure of the starting electronics.
