Evaluation Board Features
The KIT9Z1J638EVM evaluation board demonstrates the MM9Z1J638AE multi-chip module IC. The
board’s main features are as follows:
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
MM9Z1_638 Battery Sensor
High-speed CAN interface
LIN interface
Customizable GPIOs for voltage and temperature sensing
LED indicators
Onboard BDM connection via open source OSBDM circuit using the MC9S08JM60 microcontroller.
Support for USB Multilink Interface BDM
Freescale analog ICs are manufactured using the SMARTMOS process, a combinational BiCMOS
manufacturing flow that integrates precision analog, power functions and dense CMOS logic together on
a single cost-effective die.

Setting Up the Hardware
Following is a description of setting up a PC interface through a USB interface to the OSBDM connector
on evaluation board.
1. Plug one end of a USB cable (not included) into your computer and the other end into the OSBDM
mini-B USB connector (J3) on the evaluation board. See Figure 2.
2. Set S1 switches 2, 3 and 4 to the ON position. Set S1 switch 1 to the OFF position. See Figure 3.
3. Connect a laboratory power supply via banana cables to the board’s VBATT (CN5) and GND (CN6)
connectors. The supply voltage has to be in the range of 8.0 to 18 V.
4. LED D6 will light up when the PC is properly connected to the OSBDM connector.
5. LED D7 will light up when OSBDM is properly connected to the MM9Z1J638 module with power
applied.
