DOCSIS/EuroDOCSIS technology with PROPANE
benefit from increased capacity, improved efficiency,
and lower latency throughout the cable plant
• PROPANE’s increased capacity enables:
• Three times as many customers on a single upstream
scalable to emerging advanced physical layer
technology.
• Three times as many phone lines
• Faster Internet access and reduced round-trip delay for
interactive services
• Provides full compatibility with Broadcom’s entire
family of integrated DOCSIS/EuroDOCSIS silicon
solutions for both the cable modem and cable modem
termination system (CMTS)
• Reduces capital expenditures by increasing the
number of subscribers supported by a fiber node
before reaching saturation
• Continues to triple capacity as fiber nodes are split

Revolutionizing Capacity
Scalable Solution
PROPANETM is a revolutionary technology that dramatically
increases broadband network capacity. Operating exclusively
with Broadcom DOCSIS/EuroDOCSIS silicon, PROPANE
increases capacity and reduces delay by using patent-pending
efficiency and latency reduction algorithms for optimal
transmission of voice and data over broadband pipes.
PROPANE software dramatically increases last-mile capacity
of the existing broadband network. This increased capacity
becomes even more important when future node splits are
required due to total subscriber growth. In high-growth
markets cable operators often implement quad-splits, so that
four fiber nodes service the same area that a single node served
before the split. When this happens, PROPANE benefits scale
right along with it. PROPANE enables a 3× increase in
reverse path capacity as the network grows. In many cases,
these future capital requirements can also be subscriber
funded. Adding PROPANE to the initial system allows the
MSO to increase subscribers and revenue without significant
capital outlays—providing advance funding for future node
splits and other network upgrades.
PROPANE is based on application-aware, streaming
architecture that significantly reduces overhead to increase
throughput and reduce latency.
With Broadcom PROPANE, the cable operator can triple the
capacity of the shared return path compared to conventional
DOCSIS/EuroDOCSIS modems. This valuable extra capacity
enables MSOs to provide:
• More data bandwidth per user
• More voice channels per modem
• More users per fiber node
