The BL 2514A is USB dedica ted c ha rging p ort (DCP) c on trollers . Applic ati ons incl ude
ve hicle po we r ch arg e r, wall a dap te rs with USB DCP and o th er USB cha rge rs . The
BL2514A con trolle r h as th e au to -de tec t fe atu re tha t moni to rs th e D+ a nd D– line
vol tages of the USB c onnec to r, pro viding the corre ct elec trical s ignature s on the DP
and D M pins fo r the c orrec t de te cti ons of c ompliant po rtable d e vices to fas t cha rge .
These po rtable de vic es i nclude smart pho nes , 5-V table ts and pers onal media
pla ye rs .

pers onal media pla ye rs (PMP) whic h ha ve a hig her ra ted cha rgi ng curren t. W all
adap te rs and c ar c ha rge rs ca n pro vide mu ch mo re cu r ren t than 500 mA o r 900 mA to
fast c harge po rtable de vices . Se veral ne w s tan dards ha ve been in troduc ed defining
pro toc ol hand shak ing methods tha t allo w h ost a nd clien t de vice s to a ck nowled ge and
dra w addi tion al cu rre nt be yond the 5 00 mA (defined in the USB 2 .0 Spe cifica tion ) o r

0.3 V . The po rtabl e d evi ce con clude s tha t it is co nnec ted to a C hargin g P ort if the D–
vol tage is g rea te r tha n the n ominal d ata de tec t voltage of 0 .3V a nd le ss than 0 .8 V .
The secon d s tep , the second ary de tec tion , is n eces sary for p ortable equipmen t to
dete rmine be tween a CDP and a DCP. The portable de vice ou tpu ts a nominal 0 .6 V
outp u t on its D– li ne and re ads the vol tage inpu t o n i ts D + line . The p orta ble de vi ce

nominal da ta de tec t voltag e of 0.3 V. Th e portable de vice concl udes i t i s conn ec ted
