Product Brief KP106 Integrated Pressure Sensor IC for Side Crash Detection Application KP106 is a pressure sensor system for the detection of side crashes in passenger cars. In this application, the pressure sensor is assembled in a module located within the car’s side doors. When the door is compressed due to a side impact, the KP106 provides a signal pulse which is proportional to the pressure change inside the door. The height of the signal pulse depends on the relative pressure change. Therefore the output signal is independent of the ambient pressure. Features ■ PSI5 compliant / Multi-Protocol ■ Synchronous or asynchronous data transmission ■ User specified protocol available ■ 2-wire interface with on chip current modulator for Manchester communication ■ E²PROM for ID number, calibration and mode selection ■ Patented online diagnoses for pressure cells and circuitry ■ Serial service interface ■ On chip voltage regulator ■ Reverse polarity protection Application Circuit for the Pressure Sensor System Pressure Satellite Pressure Sensor System KP106 www.infineon.com/sensors Sensors Airbag ECU Receiver IC Product Brief Application Example: Airbag System Pedestrian Protection Passenger Sensing KP106 Pressure Sensor High Speed CAN Airbag ECU Side Airbag Side Impact Sensor SPI TLE 7729 SatRICTM Acceleration KP106 Pressure Sensor KP106 Pressure Sensor XC164 MCU y Front Impact Battery CrosSaveTM Front Airbag x Safing Engine (XC866) TLE 7729 SatRICTM Acceleration Safing Signals TLE 6711 Boost ER TLE 7718 TLE 7738 8 Loop g Left Side Acceleration Smart Power Switch Doors TLE 7259 LIN TLE 6250 CAN Curtains Acceleration Firing SPI KP106 Pressure Sensor Bonnet Right Side TLE 7714 TLE 7734 4 Loop Passenger Dual Stage CrosSaveTM Buck TLE 4906 TLE 4976 Buckle Switch Buck VBOOST Occupant Dual Stage TLE 4906 TLE 4976 Buckle Switch VBAT VSAT & VSYNC I/O Warning Lamp Airbag Off VLOGIC I n fi n eo n T ech n ologies offers an extensive product portfolio for occupant safety systems from micromachined sensors to smart power ICs and microcontrollers.
