Application Note Integrated Circuit Systems, Inc. M000-AN-002.PLLSIMREADME SAW PLL Simulator Instructions M900, M1000, M2000 Product Lines INSTALLATION Perform the following steps: 1. Register for the download at http://www.icst.com/FeedBack/cmbu/m2000.asp 2. Download the PLL_Sim.zip distribution file. 3. Extract the PLL Simulator files from the .zip file: 4. Download the LabVIEW Run-time Engine Version 6.1 for Windows 2000/95/98/ME/NT/XP from National Instruments: ftp://ftp.ni.com/support/labview/runtime/ windows/6.1/LVRunTimeEng.exe (Save the 14 MB file to your computer.) 5. Run LVRunTimEng.exe to install LabVIEW. You can accept the default directory offered by the wizard. 6. Run M2000PllSimulation.exe to start the PLL Simulator. SAW PLL SIMULATOR INSTRUCTIONS M900, M1000, M2000 PRODUCT LINES Application Note NOTES FOR SELECTING EXTERNAL LOOP COMPONENTS 3. Some devices, such as the M2006-01, M2004-01 and M906-02, do not have the R divider. Set R to 1 for these cases. Some devices, such has the M901-01, have a P divider at the output. Consider P=1 for the purpose of the simulation. 4. Some M1000 and M2000 series devices have Mfec and Mfin dividers. The calculated total M value should match Mfec x Mfin. The M2006-03 contains two dividers, M1 and M2; the calculated total M value should match M1 x M2. 1. Setting the VCSO Frequency and Reference Frequency automatically calculates the total M value, which is used for the loop characteristic calculations. Make sure that M is an integer when component selection is complete. 2. Set Rpost in the range of 10-200 kohm, and adjust Cpost to set the Post LPF bandwidth to approximately 5-10 x the closed loop bandwidth. It is best to keep Cpost above 400 pF. CONVENIENCE FEATURES The Data Input Pane has three convenient features: 1. Sliders to change the Rloop, Cloop, Rpost and Cpost values continuously. These are operated as shown in Figure 2. Figure 2: Slider Example 2. All of the major tic scale markings are editable. This feature is very helpful when fine tuning component values Figure 3: Scale Maker in Edit Mode. This is accomplished by adjusting the plot parameters. The cells also behave identically to those in the data input pane, with the exception of the Frequency Range and Start Frequency cells. The Frequency Range and Start Frequency cells can be left-clicked to pop up quick decade selections, as shown in Figure 4: Plot Parameter Edit Option.
