Pro-Vision® Platform
OptiDriver™
Fiber Driver®
OptiSwitch®
MRV Network Elements and 3rd Party
OVERVIEW
Service providers are increasingly challenged with rapidly scaling networks, evolving complex services, and increasing demand
for bandwidth and data services. This growth is continuously driven by the explosion of network traffic from cloud computing,
data center services, business services, wholesale exchanges, mobile backhaul expansion, on-demand video, IPTV, and
residential broadband services. All of these applications demand shorter time-to-market for new services, end-to-end service
performance monitoring, and a more cost-effective, scalable, and resilient infrastructure for data and voice services.
MRV’s Pro-Vision is a powerful service provisioning and management solution for rapid deployment of next generation carrier
Ethernet and optical transport services. Pro-Vision brings network management to the next level by providing a comprehensive
suite of graphical service delivery functions including service creation, service assurance, and service maintenance. It effectively
manages MRV’s powerful OptiSwitch® family of carrier Ethernet products and optical transport LamdaDriver® and Fiber Driver®
and OptiDriver™ elements.

Pro-Vision® Service OAM Performance Monitoring
As service provider’s network grows to large-scale deployments, there is trend towards mass adoption of standards
for Service Level Agreement (SLA) management. MRV’s Pro-Vision® and OptSwitch® platform provides industry
leading standards based Carrier Ethernet Service OAM (SOAM) performance monitoring solution. Pro-Vision
enables efficient performance test management, data collection, smart analytics and reporting. It allows granular
monitoring and reporting for the following SLA Key Performance Indicators (KPI):
1.
2.
3.
4.
Delay Measurement (Frame Delay, Frame Delay Variation)
Loss Measurement (Frame Loss)
Availability
Throughput
Service Providers can increase revenues through SLA assurances and reduce operating costs associated with manual
network fault monitoring, truck rolls, and labor-intensive performance measurements.
SOAM Performance Monitoring
Key Benefits
Pro-Vision SOAM performance monitoring allows measure Delay Measurements,
Frame Loss, Service Availability and set thresholds to validate SLA compliance. User
can define per service tests set the Bins profiles and threshold boundaries. Results
are accumulated in Bins and Buckets for measurement intervals (15 minutes). At the
end of each measurement interval, the OptiSwitch calculates the measurement and
increments the counter in the corresponding Bin. The service availability calculation
is based on standard Y.1563 and performed by the OptiSwitch firmware providing
highly accurate availability results.
Scalable and efficient standards
based performance monitoring data
collection and report generation
allows as proof of service delivery and
SLA compliance.

Single Screen Service Provisioning simplified provisioning of carrier Ethernet services (E-Line/ELAN). Creation of a
service uses a very easy point-and-click GUI operation from a single screen, allowing users to define a service, create
a customer, add end points, and select profiles within the specified SLA. Predefined service profiles streamline the
overall efficiency of service creation.
4
Application Note

End-to-End Service Provisioning provides Eservices Wizard for more automation and control. There is no need to
specify all the nodes that participate in a service. A service from end point X to end point Y automatically includes
intermediate nodes. The list of intermediate nodes in support of a service could be quite large. There are often
multiple paths, including one or more rings, used for reliability and redundancy. By declaring only the end points of a
desired service (two or more points), users can provision the service quickly. Pro-Vision calculates all the intermediate
node paths involved in provisioning the desired service, making it a user-friendly, efficient and scalable operation.
