Automated WDM networking via GMPLS control plan EM1600- WSS2Q/EM1600-WSS4D Overview The LambdaDriver WSS ROADMs considerably boost the throughput power of the LambdaDriver Optical Transport System. These modules offer flexible WSS (Wavelength Selective Switching) functionality allowing advanced reconfigurable optical network applications. The EM1600-WSS2Q is a dual-sided ROADM with one pair of Common ports (Common-In and Common-Out), one pair of Express ports (Express-In and Express-Out) and two ADD/DROP port pairs. Each side can be used separately or combined to function as a 2-degree ROADM with East-West redundancy. The modules physically switch and attenuate signals on a per-channel basis in response to a wide-ranging set of commands via the Lambda Driver management module. The modules handle over 96 C-Band DWDM channels at 50 GHz grid spacing or 48 channels at 100 GHz grid spacing. Two types of module are available for the LambdaDriver Optical Transport System - 2-degree and 4-degree WSS RODAMs. The EM1600-WSS4D is a single sided 4-degree ROADM with one pair of Common ports (Common-In and CommonOut) and four ADD/DROP port pairs. Each specific channel at the DROP port can be attenuated by software command via the integrated VOA (Variable Optical Attenuator). A group of channels switched to an ADD port can be attenuated as well using management commands. Integrated Optical Channel Monitor modules monitor the Common-Out ports providing extensive optical parameter information pertinent to the added and dropped channels. In addition, a set of Wave Blocker modules are integrated in the card and available to the user at the front panel for additional connectivity options. Strategic placement of the module at different locations in an optical network combined with the flexibility and quality of information acquired via remote access management, provides a powerful tool for implementation of advanced large scale optical networks.
