PRECAUTIONS
YOU NEED

TMCM-1043
TMCM-1043 USB serial programmer
Stepper motor with 0.4A RMS up to 1.4A
RMS nominal current rating.
Cables for interfaces, motor, and power
supply
Supply voltage +12V or +24V DC
TMCM-1043.inf file for virtual COM port
PC with configuration software
TMCM-1043_serial_programmer.exe

Do not mix up connections or short-circuit pins.
Avoid bounding I/O wires with motor power
wires.
Do not exceed the maximum power supply of
+28V DC!
Do not connect or disconnect the motor while
powered!
START WITH POWER SUPPLY OFF!

Connect USB serial programmer to PC
via USB cable.
Connect USB serial programmer with
TMCM-1043. Use the included breakout
cable.
Connect the motor.
Connect the power supply unit via
power jack. Use the breakout cable.
Download and install the file TMCM1043.inf (see www.trinamic.com) to
get a virtual COM port for the
programmer.
Turn power ON.
A red and a green LED
on the USB serial
programmer
indicate
communication
with
the TMCM-1043: green
lights up if information
becomes sent and red
indicates
information
that is received.

HOW TO CONFIGURE THE TMCM-1043
The configuration software TMCM-1043_USB_serial_programmer.exe is available on www.trinamic.com.
It provides basic settings as well as optional advanced settings, which can be changed on the fly.
MAIN WINDOW
The main window shows the default configuration of the TMCM-1043. These settings fit to the TMCMTEST-MOTOR which is part of the TMCM-1043-KIT.

Note that configuration software features switching the motor driver on resp. off. If
the driver is off, motor and TMCM-1043 can be connected or disconnected. This is
indicated by a green bar at the bottom of the main window. If the bar is red, never
disconnect the motor or the stepper driver module! Otherwise the driver module may
be damaged!

PROCEED AS FOLLOWS:
1.
Open TMCM-1043_USB_serial_programmer.exe
with a double click.
2.
Choose Trinamic TMCM-1043 (virtual COM).
3.
Click OPEN.
4.
Choose the motor current. This setting is
most important. Set the value in respect to
the maximum ratings of your motor and the
TMCM-1043! The default settings fit for the
TMCM-TEST-MOTOR (part of the kit).

Choose the microstep resolution.

Click Driver On to switch ON the motor
driver. Note that this step is not essential.
It is also possible to click one of the
arrows to move the motor. In this case,
the driver becomes enabled automatically.
On the other hand it is imperative to click
Driver Off before disconnecting the TMCM1043 or the motor. Otherwise the module
may be damaged!
TROUBLESHOOTING

Set the pulse frequency.

Fill in fullsteps per rotation or motor step
angle.

IF COMMUNICATION IS NOT ESTABLISHED
Check if the LEDs on the programmer light up
if communication should take place. If not,
check your cables again.
Check, if you are using the right COM port and
it is not blocked by another program.
Check, if the file TMCM-1043.inf is installed
correctly.

IF MOTOR DOES NOT RESPOND
Usually the communication is not established
(see above).
Check the motor connection.
In case of misconfiguration restore factory
settings for cancelling all settings modified by
the user.

ADDITIONAL SETTINGS AND DIALOGUES
STORE CONFIGURATION SETTINGS
MICROPLYER (X16)
With the Configuration File dialogue settings can
be programmed, verified and read out.
Set a tick at microPlyer if desired. With microPlyer
the microstep resolution becomes multiplied from
16 µsteps at the step input to 256 microsteps. This
way a resolution of 256 microsteps for smooth
motor movement can be selected.
DOUBLE EDGE ENABLE
Set a tick at double edge, if desired. With this
setting, rising and falling STEP pulse edges become
active and the frequency required at the step input
for a certain motor velocity is halved. This mode
must be supported by the motion controller.
STANDBY CURRENT
Set a tick at Standby Current and choose a standby

current value and the related delay time, if desired.

TOOLS MENU
The software provides further dialogues which can
be chosen by clicking tools.
RESTORE TO FACTORY DEFAULTS
With the Reset to Factory Defaults dialogue the
default settings of the module can be restored.
