EXTERNAL BATTERY PACK TOOL INSTRUCTIONS

Supported UPS
Please check your UPS owner’s manual or owner’s manual addendum to determine if the UPS
supports software configuration of external battery packs, or just run the configuration tool as it
will auto discover the attached UPS and determine if the UPS model attached supports external
battery configuration or not.
Instructions to add external battery packs
1. Connect a USB or serial communication cable between the UPS and the PC
Note 1: If the UPS supports both USB and serial communication connect only one
(1) communication cable between the PC and the UPS
Note 2: Stop the PowerAlert service if it is running
2. Open the zip file
3. Run the setup.exe installation file
4. To launch the application go to the c:\program files\TrippLite\External Battery Pack Tool
directory and double click the ebpcfg.exe
5. Select to load the battery pack file from Tripp Lite’s website or use the bundled file
located in the External Battery Pack Tool directory
6. Click ‘Next’.
7. The application will either attempt to download the battery pack list or open a window to
select the battery pack file locally.
Rev. C Page 1 8. Before proceeding, view the list of available battery packs. If the battery pack is listed
click the next button.
If a battery pack is not listed, either click the back button and select the option to
download the battery pack list from the Tripp Lite website or contact Tripp Lite’s
Technical Support department for assistance.
9. A discovery process to locate a supported UPS is started. If a supported UPS system
cannot be found the application will indicate such after discovery is complete.
Note: If a UPS that is supported cannot be found please confirm the following:
ƒ The communication cable is connected between the UPS and the
computer.
ƒ If the connection is USB, verify that the UPS shows up in Windows
Device Manager as a battery class device
ƒ If PowerAlert software is installed that it has been stopped
Rev. C Page 2 10. Click ‘Next’ after the discover process is complete and the UPS is identified.
11. Select the quantity of battery and type of battery packs that is connected to the UPS.
The application allows for the possible configuration of up to three (3) different types of
battery packs and their respective quantities attached to a single UPS
12. Click ‘Next.
13. The application will update the UPS with the new battery pack information and validates
that the data that was written to the UPS was correct
15. NOTE: If while using a USB connection to configure the number of external battery
packs connect an error appears, that states the validation of the data failed, please try
and run the configuration through the serial port of the UPS

17. Restart the PowerAlert service if necessary

Unzip the external battery pack tool setup program from the zip file
Run the setup.exe installation file
To launch the application go to the \program files\TrippLite\External Battery Pack Tool
directory and double click the ebpcfg.exe
Select to load the battery pack list from Tripp Lite’s website or use the bundled list
Click ‘Next’
The application will either attempt to download the battery pack list or open a window to
select the included battery pack file.
Click ‘Next’ to initiate a discovery of an appropriate UPS. If none is discovered the
application will indicate such after discovery is complete
Click ‘Next’
Click ‘Use Internal Batteries Only’
Click ‘Next.
The application will update the UPS with the new battery pack information
Click ‘Done’ to close the application
Restart the PowerAlert service if necessary
To uninstall the External Battery Pack Tool
1. Go to Control Panel-Add/Remove programs and select the External Battery Pack Tool
and click ‘Remove
