MIC5350 Evaluation Board Dual 300mA/500mA LDO in 2mm x 2mm Thin MLF® 2. Enable/Disable the MIC5350. The evaluation board is configured for “Default Enable” with 10KΩ pull up resistors from EN1 (J4) and EN2 (J3) to the VIN (J1) terminal. To disable the MIC5350 jumper the enable terminal (J4 for LDO1 and J3 for LDO2) to GND. The enable pin must be either pulled high or low for proper operation. Removing the pull up resistors and leaving the pins floating will cause the regulators to operate in an indeterminate state. General Description The MIC5350 is a tiny dual Ultra Low-Dropout (ULDO™) linear regulator. The MIC5350 integrates two highperformance outputs providing 300mA (VOUT1) and 500mA (VOUT2) in a tiny 2mm x 2mm leadless Thin MLF® package, which provides exceptional thermal performance. The MIC5350 provides typical dropout of 75mV at 300mA and 125mV at 500mA. Ideal for battery powered applications, the MIC5350 offers low ground current, typically 130μA, with both outputs at maximum load. 3. Connect loads to the VOUT terminals. Connect a load to VOUT1 (J5) and VOUT2 (J6) and ground terminal (J7). The loads can be either passive (resistor) or active (electronic loads). Be sure to monitor the output voltage at the VOUT (J5, J6) terminals. VOUT1 can provide up to 300mA continuous output current while VOUT2 can provide 500mA. Requirements The MIC5350 evaluation board requires an input power supply that is able to deliver at least 1A at a voltage within the range of 2.6V to 5.5V. The output load can be either active or passive. A 2.2µF capacitor is required on each output to ground for stability. The evaluation board includes an input capacitor of 10μF to compensate for long inductive test leads. 4. Bypass Pin. A 0.1µF capacitor is provided from the noise bypass pin to ground to reduce output voltage noise. The bypass capacitor can be increased, further reducing noise and improving PSRR. Turn-on time increases slightly with respect to bypass capacitance. A unique, quickstart circuit allows the MIC5350 to drive a large capacitor on the bypass pin without significantly slowing turn-on time. Precautions The evaluation board does not have reverse polarity protection. Applying a negative voltage to the VIN terminal may damage the device. Getting Started Ordering Information 1. Connect an external supply to VIN. Apply the desired input voltage to the VIN (J1) and ground terminal (J2) of the evaluation board, paying careful attention to polarity and supply voltage (2.6V ≤ VIN ≤ 5.5V). An ammeter may be placed between the input supply and the VIN terminal of the evaluation board. Ensure that the supply voltage is monitored at the VIN terminal (J1). The ammeter and power lead resistance can reduce the voltage supplied to the input.
