Atmel Aerospace Digital and Mixed-signal Rad-Hard ASIC Our Unrivalled Flight Heritage Atmel® Aerospace components are all fully designed, assembled, tested, and qualified in Europe. For nearly 30 years, the Atmel Aerospace division has been providing rad-hard digital ASICs for the most critical applications. In order to meet the needs of next-generation satellites and launchers, we are extending our offering with new ASIC platforms: • ATMX150RHA is a mixed-signal ASIC with non-volatile memory and high-voltage options, based on SOI 150nm technology • AT65RHA offers a high level of system integration and increased computing power. The device is designed in 65nm technology, with up to 50 Mgates and more embedded features such as very high-speed serial links. Atmel rad-hard ASICs are used in a wide range of European commercial and scientific programs: • Transportation - Ariane V, ISS, ATV • Earth observation - Meteosat, Cosmo, Pleiades • Communication - Globalstar, Iridium, Galileo, Sentinel • Scientific research - Cassini-Huygens, Gaia, Hersch Atmel ASIC Overview ATC18RHA ATMX150RHA AT65RHA (*) Bulk CMOS SOI CMOS Bulk CMOS 0.18 0.15 0.065 Digital Mixed-signal Digital 7M 22M 50M 7.5GHz 7.5GHz 30GHz 40 40 15ps >400 >700 >1000 Flip-chip I/O available N N Y 5V and HV (25/45/65V) option N Y N LVDS, PCI LVDS, PCI HSSL, LVDS, PCI 1.8/3.3/2.5V 1.8/5/3.3/2.5V 1.2/1.8/2.5/3.3V Power consumption (nW/gate.MHz) at 20% duty cycle <10 <10 <0.5 Analog IPs Full-custom available PLL ADC, DAC, PLL, BG, MUX, COMP… PLL RAM compiler Y Y Y NVM N Y N 300 300 300 >95 @ 125°C (**) >95 @ 125°C >60 @ 125°C Now Now Now ESCC QML, QML-Q, QML-V, QML-V RHA 2015 2016 Process Feature size (µm) Library Usable gates (equivalent NAND2) Maximum toggle frequency Gate delay @25°C (ps) Signal I/Os Specific I/Os Supply voltage Rad Hardness Functional TID (krads(Si)) Latch up (MeV/mg/cm ) 2 Availability Qualification (*): Targets 2 (**): Maximum rate possible with test equipment © 2015 / www.atmel.com Atmel Aerospace Digital and Mixed-signal Rad-Hard ASIC Benefits of Atmel Rad-Hard ASICs • Digital and mixed-signal ASICs • Multiple quality assurance levels: QML-Q, QML-V and ESCC • Robust design library of cells and macros • Robust design flow • Guaranteed radiation performance • Radiation hardened 100 krads(Si) • SEL > 95 MeV/mg/cm² Robust Design Flow The Atmel aerospace design flow uses a validated sequence of tools from RTL to GDSII. • Configurable RAM compiler, NVM option • Specific I/Os including HSSL, LVDS, PCI • Large portfolio of space-qualified packages including CQFP and CLGA/CCGA , as well as custom packages Digital & Analog Design Kit Customer Requirements Feasibility Study Preliminary Design Review Synopsys Logic/physical/test synthesis, physical design, power analysis, static timing analysis, formal verification, cell characterization tool Mentor Graphics Logic simulation, test synthesis, DRC/ARC/LVS verification Magma Library cell characterization Atrenta Power optimization, DFT, SDC/CDC verification at RTL level Ansys Digital & Analog Logic Design Intermediate Design Review Physical Design Verifications Critical Design Review Package Development Floor planning, layout prototyping, signal integrity, package design Test Development Cadence Mask Generation Power integrity Prototypes Production FPGA Retargeting to ASIC Retargeting an FPGA to an ASIC means benefiting from the technical advantages of ASICs, such as a faster and smaller chip with lower power consumption. It also offers improved reliability and radiation performance. Atmel Aerospace proposes an FPGA retargeting service to reduce your cost and design resources. SMPW - Space Multi-Project Wafer To reduce ASIC development costs, Atmel proposes a Multi Projects Wafer service (SMPW.) These quarterly SMPWs are also used to embark, at low cost, customer analog test chips intented for evaluating analog sensitive areas from final ASIC. SMPW Certified for Quality and Reliability We adhere to recognized international standards, including MIL-PRF-38535 and ESCC9000 as defined by DLA and ESA, as well as ESCC-QML.
