The CX-1 is hermetically sealed in a rugged, miniature ceramic package, a quarter of the size of an eight pin dual-in-line package. The crystal is manufactured utilizing a photo-lithographic process, ensuring consistency and repeatability of electrical characteristics. 0.7 3.8 Extensional mode Ideal for use with microprocessors Designed for low-power applications Compatible with hybrid packaging Low ageing Full military environmental testing available Ideal for battery operated applications Specification 530kHz to 2.1MHz Extensional A ±0.05% (±500ppm) B ±0.1% C ±1.0% 7pF Load Capacitance: 3kW max. A CX crystal incorporated into a Pierce oscillator (single inverter) circuit provides a high stability with low current consumption. A conventional HCMOS Pierce oscillator circuit is shown below. The crystal is effectively inductive and in a Pi-network circuit with C and C providing the additional phase shift necessary to sustain oscillation. The oscillation frequency (f ) is 15 to 150ppm above the crystals series resonant frequency (f ). Conventional HCMOS Pierce Oscillator Circuit Rf Amplifier 1 Buffer 2 0 S CS Drive Level R is used to limit the crystals drive level by forming a voltage divider between R and C . R also stabilizes the oscillator against changes in the amplifiers output resistance (R ). R should be increased for higher voltage operation. A A 1 C1 A 0 Packaging The CX crystal calibration tolerance is influenced by the effective circuit capacitances, specified as the load capacitance (C ). C is approximately equal to: L CX-1-03 - Tray Pack (Standard) L C x C2 CL = 1 C C1 + C2 + S NOTE: C and C include stray layout capacitance to ground. C is the stray shunt capacitance between the crystal terminals. In practice, the effective valus of C will be less than that calculated from C , C , and CS values due to the effect of the amplifier output resistance. C should be minimized. The oscillation frequency (f ) is approximately equal to: 2 S L 1 2 S 0 f 0 = f S 1+ C1 2(C0 + CL ) Where F = Series resonant frequency of the crystal C = Motional Capacitance C = Shunt Capacitance S 1 0 Order Code CX-1 Blank = Glass Lid C = Ceramic Lid “S” if special or custom design Blank if standard -03 Side leads C2 A Load Capacitance 1 CX-1 Osc.
