1.3 and MHL
MHL technology is an audio/video interface
designed to connect mobile devices to HDTVs
and deliver full high-definition digital video and
audio via only five pins on a miniature connector. Utilizing only two differential TMDS pairs
for audio/video packets and a single-wire control bus, MHL delivers the necessary video
bandwidth and replicates all the required DDC
and CEC control signals that come with the traditional 19-pin HDMI interface.
The SiI9206 PHY simplifies high-speed mixed
signal design by resolving many of the design
challenges faced by mobile device SoC suppliers.
The SiI9206 PHY supports a low pin-count 6bit digital interface to the SoC that reduces SoC
I/O requirements and the integrated CEC and
8kV ESD protection reduces bill-of-material
cost.
SiI9206 Application Diagram
In order to fit into the tight constraints of
today’s highly integrated mobile device electronics, the SiI9206 PHY is housed in a 4mm x
4mm, 0.8mm thin profile, 28-pin QFN package.
The SiI9206 PHY is capable of supporting color
depth and resolutions up to 36-bit Deep Color
@ 1080p/30 (HDMI) and 24-bit @ 1080p/30
(MHL).
Silicon Image’s SiI9206 transmitter PHY with
SoC integrated link layer IP solution allows for
shorter design cycles, simplified testing and
faster compliance versus full transmitter integration. Silicon Image’s solution provides benefits
of both approaches: lower bill-of-material cost
than discrete transmitter implementations, and
faster time-to-market and less chip I/O than full
transmitter integration into the SoC.
