Designated the 9175 series, this simple yet robust connector has been tested to automotive levels of shock, vibration and temperature cycling to meet the most demanding LED applications in the market today. Based on over 20 years of IDC contact technology for commercial, industrial and automotive applications, AVX expanded this series of connectors to support larger wire sizes and higher current and voltage ratings (designated series 9176 and 9177). APPLICATION OVERVIEW • Single or dual IDC contacts (based on AWG) provide a gas-tight connection of the wire to the PCB as well as enhanced mechanical stability of the connector to the PCB. • Specific insulator channels are matched to the wire outside diameter (O.D.) to maximize the strain relief and wire retention force. • Connectors are made from high temperature plastic to support automatic SMT placement up to 260ºC reflow processing. AVX Interconnect has several new products in development for 2009 to meet the new product challenges our customers require in their new applications. The first of these products are board-toboard connectors for daisy chaining multiple LED boards together in series. The first product released is a simple 1 piece card edge style connector for 1.60mm thick PCBs while the second version is a compact 2 piece (plug and receptacle) connector for SMT attachment to the PCB. The key features and benefits of these new board-to-board connectors include: • Simple and cost effective double ended card edge connector (1 piece) on 2.0mm pitch provides multiple connections to tin plated fingers at the end of each PCB. • The compact 2 piece connector system is on 3.0mm pitch, 3.0mm height and 5.5mm overall mated length to maximize miniaturization. • The 2 piece connectors are SMT terminated to one side of the PCB allowing both PCBs to be completely “butt” mated with no gap; this provides consistent LED spacing across multiple PCBs. • The 2 piece connectors are made from high temperature plastic to support automatic SMT placement up to 260ºC reflow processing. 2 PIECE
