(1) These figures represent the total actual results for all facilities operated by TDK and its domestic consolidated subsidiaries.
(2) The investment amount for the fiscal year is the amount paid in fiscal 2005.
(3) Equipment depreciation costs (as defined by law) are included as part of environmental protection, maintenance, and management costs for one fiscal year, but personnel costs are not included as they are determined by the actual number of staff in any given year.
(4) The number of employees listed for the fiscal year is a combined total based on the percentage of the overall workload of each employee actually involved.
(5) Only the actual impact is addressed. Hypothetical impacts (risk-avoidance impact or presumed impact) are not included.
(6) Airborne discharges are calculated on the basis of the amount of fuel consumed. For the discharge of NOx and soot and dust, calculations are either based on measurements taken at sites that generate soot or, for sites that do not generate soot, based on discharge volumes per volume of fuel consumed at soot-generating sites in fiscal 2000.
(7) For plants for which wastewater volume was not recorded, wastewater volume is calculated as the volumes of water used.
(8) Figures for energy usage by each facility are calculated by multiplying the volume of electricity and fuel, such as gas and oil, purchased by a CO 2 conversion factor.
(9) The volume of resources used represents a combined total, including each volume of chemical substances, in excess of one ton annually, used as materials in products as well as other PRTR-related chemical substances used at each respective site.
(10) The volume of water used includes both water used for industrial purposes and ordinary sewer water.
(11) Figures for the depreciation of assets do not include cost reductions resulting from recycling.
(12) The number of restorations required due to soil contamination or other damage to the natural environment is the sum of the incidents occurred in fiscal 2005.
