[AKD4571-B] AKD4571-B Evaluation board Rev.0 for AK4571 GENERAL DESCRIPTION AKD4571 is an evaluation board for CODEC with USB I/F part, AK4571. As the AK4571 is highly integrated, only a few external components, which are a regulator, Xtal, resistors and capacitors, are required for building USB I/F headset. The AK4571 has also EEPROM I/F for customizing Device Descriptor and String Descriptor. So the AK4571 can customize Vendor ID, Product ID in Device Descriptor and String Descriptor AK4571 is a bus-powered device and can operate with only standard USB audio, HID drivers. So you don’t need external power supply and any special software. JP1 (EPEN): Open JP1 EPEN 2) Connect PORT1 of the AKD4571-B to PC with an USB cable. Windows recognizes the AK4571 automatically, and it is not necessary to install any driver. Device manager shows “AK4571” in “Sound, video and game controllers”, if Windows recognizes the device successfully. Figure 3. Device Manager “Sound, video and game controllers” [KM121800] 2015/07 -3- [AKD4571-B] Operation (Recording) 1) Open the Start Menu, click “Control Panel” and then click “Sound”. 2) To adjust microphone volume, click “Recording” tab in “Sound” dialogue box. Click “Microphone” (it is required to select microphone already connected to PC (microphone with green checkmark)), and click “Properties”. Figure 4. Sound (Recording) 3) In “Microphone Properties” dialogue box, click “Levels” tab, drag the slider under “Microphone” to adjust sound volume and then click “OK”. Figure 5. Volume Control 4) Open the “Start Menu”, click on “All Programs”, “Accessories” folder, and double click “Sound Recorder”. Click “Start Recording”. Figure 6. Sound Recorder [KM121800] 2015/07 -4- [AKD4571-B] Operation (Playback) 1) Open the Start Menu, click “Control Panel” and then click “Sound”. 2) Right-click “Speakers” and select “Properties” under the tab of “Playback”. Figure 7. Sound (Playback) 3) In “Speakers Properties” dialogue box, click “Levels” tab, drag the slider under “Speakers” to adjust output sound volume. In “Levels” tab, click “Balance”. Drag the slider of “Left” or “Right” to adjust volume of the left sound channel or the right channel. If the microphone sound is mixed to speakers, click the mute icon under “Microphone” to cancel “Mute”, drag the slider under “Microphone” to adjust microphone sound volume and then click “OK” to exit. Figure 8. Volume and Balance Control [KM121800] 2015/07 -5- [AKD4571-B] Operation (HID Function) 1) In “Speakers Properties” dialogue box, click “Levels” tab. S1 (LINE-MUTE): When S1 button on the evaluation board is pressed, the speaker icon under “Speakers” changes to “Mute”. When S1 button is pressed again, it changes to cancel “Mute”. S2 (VOL-DOWN): When S2 button on the evaluation board is pressed, the slider under “Speakers” moves to left. S3 (VOL-UP): When S3 button on the evaluation board is pressed, the slider under “Speakers” moves to right. Figure 9. Volume Control S4 (REC-MUTE): Windows HID driver doesn’t support recording mute function. Therefore, when S4 button on the evaluation board is pressed, AK4571 sets the analog input signal on mute and D2 (RECMUTE) LED turns on, but the mute icon under “Microphone” doesn’t change. Jumper pins set up [JP1] (EPEN): EEPROM enable. OPEN: EEPROM disable (Read Device/String Descriptor from internal ROM.) <Default> SHORT: EEPROM enable (Read Device/String Descriptor from external EEPROM (U4).) [JP2] (ROUT-SEL): R-ch output to J1. LINE: Line output is selected. <Default> HP: Headphone output is selected. [JP3] (LOUT-SEL): L-ch output to J1. LINE: Line output is selected. <Default> HP: Headphone output is selected. [JP4] (IAMP): Headphone amplifier (U5) power. OPEN: Power down. <Default> SHORT: Power up. [KM121800] 2015/07 -6- [AKD4571-B] Indication for LED [D1] (SUSPEND): Monitor SUSN pin of the AK4571. LED turns off when the AK4571 is on suspend state. [D2] (RECMUTE): Monitor recording status of the AK4571. LED turns on when S4 (REC-MUTE) button is pressed and the AK4571 sets the analog input signal on mute. [KM121800] 2015/07 -7- [AKD4571-B] Software Manual If the external EEPROM is used, go through the following steps. If the external EEPROM is not used, AK4571 reads Device/String Descriptor from internal ROM and “Device Manager” indicates this Descriptor. As necessary, perform the following operation. 1) Set up the jumper pins as the followings. JP1 (EPEN): Open JP1 EPEN 2) Connect the USB control box to a PC with a USB cable and to 10pin header (PORT2) of the evaluation board with the 10pin flat cable installed in the USB control box. The red line of the 10pin flat cable should be connected with the 1pin of the 10pin Header of the evaluation board. 3) Connect the evaluation board and PC with a USB cable. 10pin Flat Cable JP1 Open AKDUSBIF-B PC Evaluation Board AKD4571-B Device AK4571 USB Cable PORT1 USB Connector USB Connector Set Red line to No.1 pin side.
