MIC5304 Evaluation Board

MIC5304 Evaluation Board
Single 150mA Low Operating Current
LDO with Voltage Select
General Description
The MIC5304 is a 150mA output, low quiescent current
voltage selectable LDO. This regulator is capable of
sourcing 150mA of output current with a low quiescent
current of 24µA. The voltage select pin allows the output to
be selected between two preset voltages. The MIC5304 is
available in a tiny 6 pin 1.6mm x 1.6mm Thin MLF®
package.
The MIC5304 150mA linear regulator is simple to use. A
small output capacitance of only 1µF for the output is
required.
An input capacitor may be required when the power supply
is more than 4-inches away from the device. The
evaluation board includes an input capacitor of 10µF to
compensate for long inductive test leads.
2. Enable/Disable the MIC5304. To enable the
MIC5304, jumper the enable terminal (J6) to VIN.
To disable the output, simply jumper the EN
terminal (J6) to the GND terminal (J2 or J5). The
enable pin must be either pulled high or low for
proper operation. Leaving the enable pin floating
will cause the regulator to operate in an
indeterminate state.
3. Connect the loads to the VOUT terminal (J4) and
ground terminal (J5). The load can be either a
passive (resistor) or active (electronic load). Be
sure to monitor the output voltage at the VOUT (J4)
terminal.
4. Voltage Select. The voltage select terminal is
used to select the output voltage between two
fixed voltages. The VSEL terminal must be
connected to either a high or low signal, leaving
the VSEL pin floating will cause the output voltage
to operate in an indeterminate state. To set VSEL
high simply jumper the VSEL terminal (J3) to VIN. To
set VSEL low jumper the VSEL terminal (J3) to GND.
Requirements
The MIC5304 evaluation board requires an input power
source that is able to deliver at least 200mA at a voltage
within the range of 2.3V to 5.5V. The output load can be
either active or passive.
Precautions
The evaluation board does not have reverse polarity
protection. Applying a negative voltage to the VIN terminal
may damage the device.
Getting Started
1. Connect an external supply to VIN. Apply the
desired input voltage to the VIN (J1) and ground
terminal (J2) of the evaluation board, paying
careful attention to polarity and supply voltage
(2.3V ≤ VIN ≤ 5.5V). An ammeter may be placed
between the input supply and the VIN terminal to
the evaluation board to accurately monitor the
input current. Ensure that the supply voltage is
monitored at the VIN terminal. Ammeter and/or
power lead resistance can reduce the voltage
supplied to the input.
