with MX25R Serial NOR Flash
(For 16Mb/32Mb/64Mb)
1. Introduction
This application note compares Macronix 16Mb, 32Mb and 64Mb, 1.8V/Wide Range VCC Serial NOR
Flash. Generally, the MX25R1635F/3235F/6435F are similar with MX25U1635F/3235F/6435F and
MX25U1635E/3235E/6435E as they are pin and command compatible with the basic Read/Program/Erase
commands. MX25R1635F/3235F/6435F provides wider voltage range and lower power consumption.
The comparison covers the general features, performance, command codes, and other differences. The
document does not provide detailed information on individual devices, but highlights major differences.
The information in this document is based on the latest datasheets listed in Section "9. Reference". Newer
versions of the datasheets may override the contents of this document.
2. General Features
Macronix 16Mb/32Mb/64Mb, 1.8V/Wide Range VCC serial flash families have similar features and functions
as shown in the table below.
MX25R1635F/3235F/6435F provide wider voltage range and 4Kb x 2 of Secured OTP size.
For Block Protection, MX25R1635F/3235F/6435F and MX25U1635F/3235F/6435F and
MX25U1635E/3235E/6435E can all use BP bit to protect content in memory. But MX25R series have T/B bit
which make slight different and easier to protect than MX25U series.

The MX25R1635F/3235F/6435F are capable of similar performance with MX25U1635F/3235F/6435F and
MX25U1635E/3235E/6435E.

7. Device Identification
The RDID instruction is for reading the 1-byte Manufacturer ID followed by the 2-byte Device ID. The REMS
instruction provides both the JEDEC assigned manufacturer ID and the specific Device ID.
