Features Description SE9020C/D is a complete Limit-current & constant voltage charger for single cell Lithium-ion and Lithium-Polymer batteries. Its SOT-23-6L package and low external component count make SE9020C/D ideally suited for portable applications. Furthermore, the SE9020C/D is specifically designed to work within Universal Travel Charger. SE9020C/D has a built-in detector that will automatically detect the polarity of the inserted battery and charge the battery at the correct the polarity. The charge voltage is fixed at 4.2V. The SE9020C/D automatically terminates the charge cycle when the charge current drops to 14mA after the final float voltage is reached. When the input supply is removed, the SE9020C/D automatically enters a low current stage, dropping the battery drain current to less than 7mA. The SE9020C/D can be put into shutdown mode, reducing the supply current to 30uA. SE9020C/D supports two LED drivers that give the customers the option to select which method fit best in their respective applications. One LED driver is internally set to indicate the power on/off of the IC. Another LED driver can either drive a standard LED named SE9020D or 7-color LED named SE9020C, which will be explained in detail in the application notes. ¾ Automatically Identifies the polarity of the battery ¾ Typical-Current to 250mA ¾ Short-Circuit Protection ¾ Low external component ¾ Build in high precision reference voltage ¾ Preset 4.2V Charge Voltage with ±1% Accuracy. ¾ 20uA Supply Current in Shutdown. ¾ Support Standalone Battery Charger. ¾ Support both 2-LED and Flashing LED schemes. ¾ Available in 6-Lead SOT-23-6L DIP-8 and COB Packages. ¾ RoHS Compliant and 100% Lead (Pb)-Free Pin Configuration Application Universal Travel Charger ¾ Pin Configuration 1 LED2 2 VIN 3 4 5 6 7 BAT- GND BAT+ LED3 LED1 COB Revision 2/16/2009 Preliminary and all contents are subject to change without prior notice © Seaward Electronics Inc., 2007. • www.seawardinc.com.cn • Page 1 Application Diagram Figure 1 7 color LED circuit + Figure 2 2 LED circuit + LED1 BAT- SE9020C 1 4.75V~6V 6 2 BAT+ 1 4.75V~6V 5 3 4 LED2 SOT-23-6 _ 220uF/16V 220uF/16V _ SE9020D SE9020C SOT-23-6L Figure 3 BAT- LED1 6 2 5 3 4 BAT+ LED2 SOT-23-6 SE9020D SOT-23-6L 7 color LED circuit Figure 4 + 2 LED circuit + BAT- BAT- SE9020 220uF/16V _ 8 7 6 5 LED1 1 2 3 4 4.75V~6V LED2 _ DIP8 BAT+ 220uF/16V 1 2 3 4 4.75V~6V SE9020 8 7 6 5 LED1 LED3 DIP8 BAT+ SE9020 DIP-8 Figure 5 SE9020 DIP-8 7 color LED circuit Figure 6 + + 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 4.75V~6V LED1 BAT- 4.75V~6V LED2 BAT+ SE9020 COB _ 220uF/16V 220uF/16V _ 2 LED circuit 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 SE9020 LED3 LED1 BATBAT+ COB Revision 2/16/2009 Preliminary and all contents are subject to change without prior notice © Seaward Electronics Inc., 2007. • www.seawardinc.com.cn • Page 2 Absolute Maximum Rating (1) Parameter Symbol Value Units Input Supply Voltage Vin 8 V BAT Voltage VBAT+ 7 V BAT Voltage VBAT- 7 V LED1 VLED1 7 V LED2 VLED2 7 V BAT Short-Circuit Duration Continuous Thermal Resistance, Junction-to-Ambient ΘJA 250 (SOT-23-6) °C/W BAT Pin Current IBAT 250 mA LED1/2 Current ILED 20 mA Maximum Junction Temperature TJ 125 °C Storage Temperature TS -65 to +125 °C 300 °C Lead Temperature (Soldering, 10 sec) Operating Rating (2) Parameter Symbol Value Units Supply Input Voltage VIN +4.75 to +6 V Junction Temperature TJ -40 to +85 °C Electrical Characteristics VIN = 5V; TJ = 25°C; unless otherwise specified.
