Environmental precautions Place in a container approved for transportation by appropriate authorities, but do not seal the container for 48 hours to avoid pressure build-up. Clean-up methods Not applicable. In the event of a release of this material, the user should determine if the release qualifies as reportable according to local, state, and federal regulations. SECTION 7: HANDLING AND STORAGE 7.1 HANDLING For industrial or professional use only. Avoid eye contact with dust or airborne particles. Avoid breathing of dust created by sanding, grinding or machining. Damaged product can break apart during use and cause serious injury to face or eyes. Check product for damage such as cracks or nicks prior to use. Replace if damaged. Always wear eye and face protection when working at sanding or grinding operations or when near such operations. Sparks and particles flying from the product during sanding or grinding can cause injury and fire. 7.2 STORAGE Store in a cool, dry place. SECTION 8: EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION 8.1 ENGINEERING CONTROLS Use with appropriate local exhaust ventilation. Provide ventilation adequate to control dust concentrations below recommended exposure limits and/or control dust. Use general dilution ventilation and/or local exhaust ventilation to control airborne exposures to below Occupational Exposure Limits and/or control dust, fume, or airborne particles. If ventilation is not adequate, use respiratory protection equipment. Provide appropriate local exhaust ventilation for sanding, grinding or machining. 8.2 PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE) 8.2.1 Eye/Face Protection Avoid eye contact. To minimize the risk of injury to face and eyes, always wear eye and face protection when working at sanding or grinding operations or when near such operations. The following eye protection(s) are recommended: Safety Glasses with side shields . 8.2.2 Skin Protection _________________________________________________________________________________________________ Page 3 of 7 MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEET 3M™ EXL Unitized Debur and Finishing Wheels and Blocks, 4A FIN and 6A FIN 07/18/11 Avoid skin contact. Wear appropriate gloves to minimize risk of injury to skin from contact with dust or physical abrasion from grinding or sanding. 8.2.3 Respiratory Protection Avoid breathing of dust created by sanding, grinding or machining. Assess exposure concentrations of all materials involved in the work process. Consider material being abraded when determining the appropriate respiratory protection. Select and use appropriate respirators to prevent inhalation overexposure. Select one of the following NIOSH approved respirators based on airborne concentration of contaminants and in accordance with OSHA regulations: Half facepiece or fullface air-purifying respirator with N95 particulate filters . Select and use respiratory protection to prevent an inhalation exposure based on the results of an exposure assessment. Consult with your respirator manufacturer for selection of appropriate types of respirators. 8.2.4 Prevention of Swallowing Not applicable. Not an expected route of exposure. Wash hands after handling and before eating. 8.3 EXPOSURE GUIDELINES Ingredient Authority Aluminum Oxide Mineral Aluminum Oxide Mineral CMRG OSHA Aluminum Oxide Mineral Silicone Coated Release Liner Silicone Coated Release Liner OSHA ACGIH OSHA Silicone Coated Release Liner Filler OSHA ACGIH Filler CMRG Filler OSHA Filler OSHA Filler OSHA Additive Additive ACGIH CMRG Additive OSHA Type TWA TWA, respirable fraction TWA, as total dust TWA TWA, respirable fraction TWA, as total dust TWA, respirable fraction TWA, as respirable dust TWA concentration, respirable TWA concentration, as total dust TWA TWA TWA, as respirable dust TWA, as total dust Limit Additional Information 1 fiber/cc 5 mg/m3 15 mg/m3 10 mg/m3 5 mg/m3 15 mg/m3 2 mg/m3 0.5 mg/m3 0.1 mg/m3 0.3 mg/m3 20 millions of particles/cu. ft. 10 mg/m3 5 mg/m3 15 mg/m3 SOURCE OF EXPOSURE LIMIT DATA: ACGIH: American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists CMRG: Chemical Manufacturer Recommended Guideline OSHA: Occupational Safety and Health Administration AIHA: American Industrial Hygiene Association Workplace Environmental Exposure Level (WEEL) SECTION 9: PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES Odor, Color, Grade: General Physical Form: Autoignition temperature Flash Point Flammable Limits(LEL) Solid Abrasive Product Solid Not Applicable Not Applicable Not Applicable _________________________________________________________________________________________________ Page 4 of 7 MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEET 3M™ EXL Unitized Debur and Finishing Wheels and Blocks, 4A FIN and 6A FIN Flammable Limits(UEL) Boiling Point Density Vapor Density Not Applicable Not Applicable Not Applicable Not Applicable Vapor Pressure Not Applicable Specific Gravity pH Melting point Solubility In Water No Data Available Not Applicable Not Applicable Not Applicable Evaporation rate Kow - Oct/Water partition coef Viscosity Not Applicable Not Applicable Not Applicable 07/18/11 SECTION 10: STABILITY AND REACTIVITY Stability: Stable.
