The DPV family includes the following three devices: ■ DPV34X. Supports V.34/V.17/V.29 (and lower) FAX rates for FAX-only applications. ■ DPV34DX. Supports V.34 data as well as V.34/V.17/V.29 FAX modes. ■ DPV90DX. Supports V.90/K56flex/V.34 data and V.34/V.17/V.29 FAX. This device requires 16K x 16 external SRAM for V.90/K56flex operation. For traditional modem designs and other applications requiring a complete integrated embedded modem chip set, Lucent’s Venus® chip set is a superior choice. The Venus device is an integrated microcontroller and data pump with an array of DTE interfaces to support a variety of applications. The DPV data pumps are software compatible with the integrated Venus data pump from both the DSP and microcontroller/host interface viewpoints. Therefore, all DSP firmware available for the Venus data pump to support modes such as V.34 FAX, V.90, and K56flex can be used without modification on the DPV devices. Similarly, it is possible to use common C source code for both Venus-based modems and designs using a DPV data pump with an external microcontroller. The DPV90DX, DPV34DX, and DPV34X data pumps are available in 128-pin TQFP packages. These data pumps are used with the CSP1034 codec that is available in 44-pin MQFP and 48-pin TQFP packages. 1. 2. V.90 and K56flex are supported by the DPV90DX device and require 16K x 16 external SRAM (15 ns). V.34 data modes are supported by the DPV90DX and DPV34DX devices. FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION The Lucent Technologies DPV chip set is a two-chip solution consisting of a Lucent Technologies data pump (DPV34X, DPV34DX, or DPV90DX) and a CSP1034 codec. The DPV34X devices support FAX modes at rates to 33.6 kbits/s, and the DPV34DX device supports V.34 rates to 33.6 kbits/s in both FAX and data modes. The DPV90DX device also supports V.90 and K56flex technology for data rates up to 56 kbits/s. A block diagram of the DPV90DX modem chip set is illustrated in Figure 1.
