G5871 Global Mixed-mode Technology Inc. Single Cell Li-Ion Battery Linear Charger Accepting USB and AC-Adapter Power Sources Features General Description The G5871 are a standalone linear Li-Ion battery charger with a complete precharge, constant current, and constant voltage charge loop. The charger accepts an input voltage up to 28V but is disabled when input voltage exceeds the OVLO threshold, typically 6V, to prevent excessive power dissipation. In the ac-adapter configuration, charge current can be set by an external resistance, and end-of-charge (EOC) current is fixed at 50mA for any input source type. As no input voltage is attached or when disabled, the charger draws less than 1µA leakage current from the battery. The G5871 offer integrated power MOSFET, charge status, high accuracy current and voltage regulation, charge termination, and internal thermal foldback function. The charge voltage is regulated at 4.2V, and charge is complete when the charge current reduces to the EOC current level during the CV charge phase. The STAT1 and STAT2 provide unique indication for each charging condition. An internal charge timer provides a backup safety for charge termination. Other features include undervoltage lockout, overvoltage lockout, over temperature protection and auto-recharge if the battery voltage falls below an internal threshold.
