Datasheet
General Description
The NDAS3012 controller uses NDASTM network directly attached storage
technology to support data transport to/from the ATA/ATAPI devices (HDD, MO,
CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, and etc.) through 1Gbps Ethernet links.
NDAS3012 controller receives disk operation commands from the host through
Ethernet and converts the commands to native command sequence to ATA/ATAPI
interface. NDAS3012 controller is a high performance protocol converter between
ATA/ATAPI commands and ATA/ATAPI devices data transport requests.
NDAS3012 controller facilitates the network directly attached storage technology by
directly interfacing ATA/ATAPI devices to the Ethernet. NDAS3012 controller along
with the host system driver software provides versatile, scalable, sharable, and
expandable network directly attached storage solutions.

Functional Description
The NDAS3012 is in a compact package. It provides GMII interface for Gigabit
Ethernet PHY and ATAPI/ATAPI interface for ATA/ATAPI devices. Figure 3.
Functional Block Diagram shows the functional block diagram of the chip.

The GMII interface signal timings comply with “Reconciliation Sublayer (RS) and Gigabit Media
Independent Interface (GMII)” section of IEEE 802.3.
ATA Timing
The ATA interface supports all kinds of ATA PIO modes, Multiword DMA modes, and Ultra DMA
