File E70785 Vol. 2 Sec. 6 and Report Page 1 Issued: 2006-03-17 DESCRIPTION PRODUCT COVERED: USR - Component - Transient Voltage Surge Suppressors, Gas Tubes, Cat. Nos. DA38-152M, DA38-272M, DA38-302M and DA38-362M may be followed by additional numbers and/or letters. GENERAL: These products are gas tubes connected in series with a R/C(XUHT2) metal oxide varistor intended for use within equipment where transient voltage suppression is desired. USR indicates investigation to the following U.S. National Standard: Transient Voltage surge Suppressors, UL 1449 Second Edition, dated August 15, 1996, including requirements effective February 9, 2007. ELECTRICAL RATINGS: Model No. DA38-152M DA38-272M DA38-302M DA38-362M DA38-152M DA38-272M DA38-302M DA38-362M V ac 125 125 125 125 250 250 250 250 Application CC/DPI CC/DPI CC/DPI CC/DPI CC/DPI CC/DPI CC/DPI CC/DPI SVR Peak V 3000 4000 4000 5000 4000 4000 4000 5000 Min Min Min Min Min Min Min Min Series MOV 5 mm; Min 270 5 mm; Min 270 5 mm; Min 270 5 mm; Min 270 5 mm; Min 470 5 mm; Min 470 5 mm; Min 470 5 mm; Min 470 V V V V V V V V CC indicates Cord-Connected and DPI indicates Direct Plug -In ENGINEERING CONSIDERATIONS (NOT FOR FIELD REPRESENTATIVE’S USE): These transient voltage surge suppressors have been tested to verify that transient voltage surges are limited to the max amplitude specified by the manufacturer when subjected to 1.2 by 50 us, 6 kV surges. They are not intended to function as lightning arrestors. The effect of this product on connected equipment and the adequacy of the voltage-suppression level to protect connected equipment from transient voltage surges have not been evaluated. CONDITIONS OF ACCEPTABILITY: 1. These devices should be used within the Recognized ratings as specified in this report. 2. These Gas Tubes were tested with an MOV as the series impedance device, as described in the Electrical Ratings, to limit the follow current. Consideration shall be given to conducting the Measured Limiting Voltage of UL 1449 to determine the suitability of the gas tube if used in series with a different impedance limiting device, in the end-use application. File E70785 Vol. 2 Sec. 6 and Report Page 2 Issued: 2006-03-17 3. These devices are intended for factory wiring only where the suitablility of the connections(including spacings between factory connectors) shall be determined in the end-use application. 4. These devices have not been subjected to the Abnormal Overvoltage Tests as required by Section 37 of UL 1449. The end product engineer shall determine the necessity of conducting these test in the end-use application. 5. These devices have not been subjected to the Surge Current Tests as required by Section 35 of UL 1449. The end product engineer shall determine the necessity of conducting this test in the end-use application. 6. The products covered by this report have been subjected to the Measured Limiting Voltage Test as specified in Section 34 of UL 1449 for Cord-Connected or Direct Plug-In applications. 7. If the end-product requires a “Suppressed Voltage Marking”, then the Measured Limiting Voltage must be reconducted with the components installed in the end-use application to determine the Suppressed Voltage Rating. CONSTRUCTION DETAILS: General - The product shall be constructed in accordance with the following description. Corrosion Protection - All parts of corrosion resistant material or plated or painted.
